(I didn't actually watch it).
Me neither, but I confidently predict Cav will "hit back at the critics" at least once this week.
Bless him, he's confused. With all the crowds he thinks he's at the TdF and therefore that he needs to crash or screw up on the first couple of stages before finally finding his legs and mullering everybody."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -
Looks like Cav decided to go it alone and it backfired.0

Cav pre-empting leaving Sky a little too early there....0
-
Good stage, really enjoyed the coverage, can't wait for Devon0

Cavendish lost Luke Rowe's wheel by easing off far too much and far too early, approaching the final bend.
Even Garmin's riders were able to pass him without falling off."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Sky lead out fail. Standard.
Good crowds.
The lead out was fine, Rowe was still at the front 100m out but Cav had chosen to try to use another wheel.
Agreed.
School boy error, should have had faith in the man in Gold.0 -
Rode from ilkeston to the first cat climb at turnditch the best bit was riding through duffield going past all those people was amazing.
The support by the road was massive so many people turned out to watch it was nice to see.
The breakaway group went up the climb so quick it made my effort look pathetic,it just shows the gap between the pros and normal riders.
One tip is watch out for motorbike riders we were nearly run down several times and when the peleton went past they nearly collected half the crowd.0 -
wiggins and rowe
What a great day - a real buzz about the place. There's a MASSIVE pothole just round the corner from this spot - i think thats where the crash happened. Loads of people out in places you don't normally see people - I even got cheers and sympathy as I cycled back and a massive round of applause from some school kids - be great if the wiggo effect continues. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
Cavs crashed a lot this year and got beat by sprinters in the Tour of Denmark. Now he's getting beat by sprinters i've never heard of.
Personally, i don't think Cavs head is in the right place at the moment what with all this talk of leaving Team Sky. If he is leaving then he probably just wants the season done so he can move on and build up another sprint team around him.
I hope its that anyway, and not that he's losing his speed.0 -

Watching on TV I had to keep reminding myself that the guy in yellow [Gold] wasn't Wiggo. So much confusion.0 -
i was going to watch it on morridge but as i drove past ramshaw i could see hundreds of cars so chose a spot in Gradbach i knew would be good.a very wet sharp corner.good for a slow view of them.i chose to video it as i could take snap shots from it.

really enjoyed it,lots of motorbikes.was like the TT0 -
How long has Porter been watching cycling and yet he didn't realise Cav had deliberately dropped off the wheel! Managed to make a hash of it though and probably would have been better off just sticking with Rowe who looked to me in a position to give a good lead out. Odd!0

when I first watched it it looked like Cav slipped his (right) pedal on the shortdownhill section, and that was why he freewheeled for a bit and got overtaken by a couple, or thre, riders. By the time he'd re-engaged his cleat they were past him.
Why would he coast on that section? It's not something you'd expect Cav to do. I'd be interested to hear if my 'unclipped pedal' theory has any truth.

So the organisers messed up and presented Rowe with the leaders jersey in error the had to re-do it...Contador is the Greatest0

Great spot: wet and slippery, squealing brake pads, shoes uncleating! An Audi soft top advertising skoda in BIG writing (50 secs in) and a broom car endowed with a proper witch's besom at the very end!0 -

Can't believe some of the naieve comments on here !!!
" Cav lost Rowe's wheel? " Really? I am sure that when you "stop" pedalling that will happen!!
" Sky leadout failed" Oh, so Rowe leading out of last bend in front with 200m to the line is being in the wrong position? hmm don't think so.
The only problem was Cav let wheel go on purpose for others to close which would mean protecting the yellow for Rowe but Cav did not realise that the unknown (ha ha) but very fast Howard would pip him to the line.0 -

No doubt about it, it was supposed to be clever if it wasn't for Howard.0 -

Also Cavendish made the tactical mistake of not realising right behind were Van Poppel and Downing, both of whom were threats to Rowe with the potential bonifications (as indeed turned out to be the case) and both of whom, with Howard, were in tow behind the Garmin rider who first passed Cavendish and led up to Rowe.0 -

He's also just 22, think you're being a bit harsh on the guy."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -
Age doesnt mean anything. Guardini, Degenkolb, Kittel, Sagan etc etc. All young and winners.
I have nothing against the guy, I don't even know him, I just know his palmares are not there for now, and Cav as Tier 1 should have been able to give him a 10m gap and still get the win...if he was on form.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Precisely, this is the ToB. Cav is just flying the flag really. With a worlds course that doesn't suit him and two GTs in his legs this is just a jolly for him.
Sagan is in a different league of potential.
As for Guardini he's only won one real race of note (Giro stage), winning a hatful of stages in the Tour of Langkawi does not a great rider make.
I'm not saying that Leigh Howard is going to develop in to a superstar, but personally i'd rather see the wins getting shared a little bit rather than some procession where Cav just hoovers up stages."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -
Just for the record I dont care if Cav wins. I have very little love for any pure sprinter even if I can admire their speed in the final 200m and their skill at jostling for position and their balls of steel.Contador is the Greatest0

Yeah, Swifty Ben Swift wouldn't have made the same mistake0 -
Having watched it in detail i think Cav actually screws it up and was an error of judgement. I was surprised he came off the wheel and slowed down around the bend section, which he either did on purpose or underestimated the bend. Either way he underestimated the Green Edge rider and probably thought he could latch onto another wheel and beat him. Cav lost it when he came off Rowes wheel, and i think it was an error on his part, as he lost momentum and gave himself too much to do in the straight.
But as i said before, i dont think Cavs head is totally focused at the moment.0 -
Well two wins in a row by cav and the leaders jersey ,shame on all those people who wrote off his chances of doing well.0
