But how, for instance, would it stand up to, say, a tumbarumba chardy?0

Could have done a head and shoulders add.0 -
Pretty sure I watched the OP race as a junior or maybe school boy at the nationals at the Saffron Lane track. Not long after arriving in the country ? Bloody hell he was good, dominant in the pursuit and far more sun tanned than any of the other cyclists !
With regard to an amnesty, if it gets to a better understanding of what went on and helps facilitate necessary changes to clean up the sport, then I think it's worth it (maybe once and for all separating out the functions of cycle promotion and doping regulations into separate institutions, with doping reporting directly to Wada ?) However if it just leads to a year or two of navel gazing and then it goes back to the bad old days, then it will be one heck of an opportunity lost.0 -
It is not fair to comment on hair styles from the 80s and 90s. It was a different world. Everyone was doing it.
And on topic, without looking too deep into logistics/fallout etc do like the idea of an amnesty.0 -

Tumbi chards rock! There's some cracking wines from there... try a Shiraz, really complex, savoury style!0 -
I met Joe Parkin at the start of Flanders in 2011, he was keeping the faith with what i believe is the only haircut he's ever known."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Joe has had that haircut since I first knew him! I used to give him grief about it looking like a mullet, but he just resonded by growing it out a'la rock-star! Great guy...0 -
I'm away for a week or so on the Tour Of Britain so might not have much of a chance to reply or play on BR... so, not being rude, just busy!0

The pro race forum as a pro playground! Fabulous. Enjoy the ToB, bring a jumper! Are you attending all stages?0 -
I'm all for wiping the slate clean as regards past mistakes, an amnesty seems to be the way forward. I guess it is a very brave step to take admitting you were part of that culture. Maybe it's easier to see it as a good idea and easy to do from the fans side!0

To what end though? You can't change the past. What happened happened. Hounding a retired rider who has nothing to do with the sport anymore and can't pay back the money since his restaurant went bust isn't going to help anyone. Those still in the sport will just deny and watch each others' backs. Then no-one will get found out at a later date.
And who's going to pay for all this chasing and especially all the court cases? And are you going to believe everything everyone says or just the bits which fit into your preset ideas? Take Museeuw himself - he says he only doped in the last year or two of his career as he was getting? Is this true or false?
People talk about 'truth and reconcilliation' but really they want 'gossip and retribution'.
OK, in hindsight for me it's not about the money, but there has to be some sort of gesture, however token, to indicate that the rider has not gotten away completely scot free. The natural assumption sithat PEDs improve your performance, netting you more victories and a more lucrative career. If I was a totally clean pro rider, a truth and reconciliation process wouldn't change the fact that my earning potential as a professional sportsperson was significantly hampered by cheats.0 -

Ok, here's my 2p in regards to an amnesty/reconciliation/truth commission: I think they owe it to their fans to 'come clean', so to say. Especially when they are still involved in the sport. It's certainly a brave thing to do, but also an honest and honourable thing to do. We as fans have been had and should actually demand some sort of amnesty for our heroes!
Price money and palmares do not have to be returned/annulled, unless one is in denial and there is overbearing evidence to the contrary.0 -

I think fans would be happier with honesty. I guess it's like the old adultery adage of it wasn't so much the cheating but the lies that really hurt.
I don't like being taken for a mug and when someone, as in Museeuw for example, tries to convince you that performances such as PR 96 were legitimate I have no respect for him. Whereas a "yeah I did dope" would at least allow you to believe in them as a person if not a rider.
I think we've reached a stage where it is actually being confirmed that a large amount of riders, races, performances, wins etc of the late 80's, 90's and 00's were doped. It would be nice now if all those guilty confessed so that those riders who did lose out in those periods by being clean get their moment in the sun by being recognised as such.0 -
PS: thanks for the thumbs up oenologist, but I'm sticking to wheat and hops for the time being.0
