Gald you had a ball, although I'd bet half my mortgage you're now thinking you need to go back to see bits you didn't get round to!0 -

Where are you staying?
We stayed on Via Nationale (Hotel Artimede), and walked everywhere except Vatican which was 1 euro by bus and a nice walk back.
Theres a tunnel (Umberto) off VN that takes you to where the Spanish steps are, then close by is Trevi Fountain.
Also, Colosseum, Circus Maximus (not much there but a good reason to walk on to Diocletian (SP) baths - or it may have been Caracalla (yes, deffo and you get to see a bit of the Appian way).
The Forum is a must, plus the museum behind it - amazing sculptures! (Start at the Colosseum and work your way through).
Then there is Hadrians Tomb and St Peters, plus Cistine Chapel. Latter 2 further out, the rest all walkable.
All do-able in 3 or 4 days I reckon, at a leisurely pace. Find it all on a map and use walkjogrun/net to plan some routes.
Go off-piste to eat and eat cheaper.
Ignore beggars, even when prostrated before you(!) and watch your pockets (all the usual big city advice really).
Enjoy, I'm envious and would go tomorrow if I could.0 -
Thank you.
An apartment may be the way to go as there are three of us and the supplement for a single room is huge.0 -
I only read post one and jumped in. Too late for the OP in Sep 12!
So upperoilcan you went and enjoyed - at the same hotel as me!

AllezMark, this is 5 mins walk from the main station which is also where the airport buses stop - ideal.0 -

Depending on what your budget is I can highly recommend the Hotel Raphael. I splashed out more than I ever thought I would for a hotel room when I stayed there for our 10th wedding anniversary (it wasn't stupid prices though) and certainly wasn't disappointed. http://www.raphaelhotel.com/intro-page.htm0

I got married in Rome almost 6 years ago, fantastic place to visit. We stayed here facing the Vatican museum http://www.alimandivaticanohotel.com/ You have ottivano and capro underground stations behind the hotel and St Peters 5 mins away.
The Chapel we got married was one of the 1st built in Rome apparently, lovely little place right beside the Trevi fountain.
