Is Strava nonsense?

  • I have been a regular cyclist for 6 months and I am definitely improving. Strava has helped with this.

One of my current challenges is trying to get up a 20% steep hill near my home within a time of 2 minutes.

I thought I had done it today even though I lost a bit of traction with my rear wheel on some wet leaves.

My time was exactly 2 minutes.

So tomorrow I will walk up the hill with a brush and also dry the road with loads of rags. Then I will give it another crack ;-)
  • I think its a really handy tool to have, it cost nothing to use & simply allows you to record your ride in a much better way than jotting down the date & average speed (from a cycle computer) into a diary.

Not everyone has hundreds of pounds to spend on Garmins, SRM's or even HRM's, The option to compare with riding buddies etc is again a neat touch that is also a free benefit.

I dont have any isues with anyone that prefers to use far more accurate or expensive data recording & wouldnt hold it against them if they chose not to share it via social-media. Once again internet keyboard warriors can't accept peoples different opinions for what it is....

On a positive note... I spend about a third of the year in France and noticed that there was a French rider who was showing on many of the segments I ride over.
To cut a long story short, I rode a particular segment back in the summer, he made a comment and gave me kudos.. we exchanged a few messages and a few weeks ago we met up when we were in France this October and rode together a couple of times. I've now got a French riding buddy (really nice guy) and I'm discovering new routes and getting pushed as he is a bit faster than me.. perfect.
“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”
