    Boonen?
  • Are those commercially available?

    I'm asking for a friend...

    Boonen?

Don't think it's an OPQS rider, those are Corima wheels which Astana use.

    Probably an idiot question but...

How come you know it's a 170 ? Have you used the rest of the photo as a basis ?
  • I don't know for sure. It was the title on it.

Someone who bought the wrong size frame is my guess.....
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

He's taking the Disgruntledgoat approach of a slightly too small frame for lightness and then a long stem for "racey" handling. The guy's clearly a winner.

These are pro teams, the back of the trucks are lined with frames on the wall.

    judging by that pic, nobody.

looks very much like a (rough) custom machined job

Just look for a rider with his knuckles dragging on the ground.
  • I imagine it will be Kasheshkin, he had a 150 when they were riding BMC.

How much layback is there on the seatpost? Boonen has a 140mm I think that Zipp custom made for him

Racey? It must be like turning the Ark Royal.

Must be Kashechkin. He's about 5cm taller than anyone else on the Vuelta team (according to the Astana roster), he's pictured on his own website with a bike with a similarly massive stem:

and I think you can just see the silver stem in this photo:

  • Yeah probably is.

  • I use a 140mm stem on a slightly smaller frame, as I mentioned. I just like the way it handles. I do occasionally swap it for a shorter one on TTs and HCs as, again, I just like it.

So much of positioning is just what you feel comfortable with.

I use a 165mm stem. I knew it would catch on.... eventually!

Ah i see what you are saying. As in the "codpiece" or E type bonnet (probably explains my 90mm :( )

Likely to be a horrible and unstable (dangerous) ride if this is true and not just a weird camera perspective... the handlebars will be clamped beyond the front hub meaning the rider would need to be super careful when braking and riding out of saddle (i.e. more weight on the front portion of the wheel (flying over handlebars comes to mind)...

There is no way that that stem even compares to your position. His is quite reasonable for a long, lean pro athlete.

Magnus and Harmon saying on Eurosport yesterday that it is KASHECHKIN that is now using a 190mm stem!

It's Kashekin's stem. He's had it for yonks, it was custom made by FSA hence why his mechanic stripped the paint when he moved to Saxo Bank.

Poke-her face (:-D) I heard that comment y'day during the TofT and I wonder if they made a mistake. A 190mm stem is ridiculous...
