Neutralising acid in energy drinks

I can't stomach the acidity of certain energy drinks, including Powerbar Isoactive (a tub of which was given to me last year.. I wouldn't pay for it even if I could afford it). I sometimes have 40:60 orange juice and water + maltodextrin; today I tried this with about 1/4 of a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to neutralise the acid. Despite being fizzy after being kept in the fridge all night it tasted much nicer and seemed to go down much better than without the bicarb. Normally I struggle to drink without my stomach feeling bloated or getting stomach cramp, but this stuff went down a treat. Probably better for the teeth as well. Has anyone else tried this and did it work for you? Can you end up taking in too much sodium doing this?

I found the same so just make up the 'homemade' energy drink as described in the Fitness section of this site. Water, a bit of sugar and a pinch of salt. I've found squeezing a limes worth of juice improves the flavour no end, without any stomach problems.
