A project for next summer...

It's ideally a mini-DH bike that I can pedal up some fairly steep and long climbs to get to the DH runs when the lifts are closed. Nothing too technical going up - mainly fireroads & 4x4 tracks
But looking for a sub £600 frame for those forks rather than the other way 'round."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

My Torque pretty much fits what you're looking for, but it's the older 170mm version. You might be able to get one second hand pretty cheap... Without the adjustable post, mine comes in at 34lbs (but is a 1x9).0

Tbh - I hadn't looked at the Torque frame only the Torque FRX  (which is way over budget)
The Torque frameset is listed at £725 - not a million miles off £600. Worth looking into some more..."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Ah Ok. Your first post was a little misleading.felix.london wrote:...the project would be to "build up a big hitting all mountain/enduro ride"
Anyways. How about a 2nd hand Lappier Froggy? I've seen a few frames on Pinkbike and Ebay before. Might be more common in your part of the world?0 -

Yes..plenty Lap's around my neck of the woods! All mountain-Enduro; Have plans on doing the Mega next year and would ride this rather than the Session and got plans to do the Trans Provence the year after and again this bike would probably be more suited than the Rockhopper!"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I was in Alpe d'Huez a few weeks ago, you could have tried it out0 -

The mega (down to Allemond, not into Huez) was pretty immense, and there's a black run that's a DH race track that goes into Oz that was incredible(The torque was a bit out of it's depth there!). But otherwise, I think I'm still to find a biking Nirvana. The common runs were just shredded with breaking bumps...I think next year I might fork out for a guide for a few days to find the off piste routes.
Can you recommend any trail centres? I've done Morzine, Les Gets, Chatel and Alpe d'Huez now... Whistler is a bit out of price range atm0 -
I've never been to those places so can't compare but my valley (Serre Chevalier) has lots to do for sure but only a 2-stage cable car and one chair lift open in the summer (I don't know if that gives you an idea of size?)
Up the road on the Italian border (15mins drive) is Mongenevre which has one or two lifts open in the summer and there are lots of other stations dotted around the area. Looks like a nice trail from Montgenevre down to Serre Chavalier which I might investigate when I get back from this job.
You could def fill a week with riding some pretty amazing & gnarly sh1t. There's some stuff you'd like from Col du Granon which is above my house down into various villages
I wanna ride La Grave next year - if it's anything like the snowboarding it'll be pretty hardcore...hopefully my riding will be up a notch or two by next summer :?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

btw - not sure if the Torque would take a 1.5" steerer or the Froggy for that matter, think they've both got tapered head tubes? Hard to tell from the websites
Still haven't bought the Domains but think I might even though it's proving a bit of a nightmare trying to find a suitable frame that will fit 'em!"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Just had a look around and I can't see it on their web either... but the pic sort of looks like a tapered. Mine's tapered.
I think we're going to try the Italian Alps next year, fly to Turin. I've lost my book on European riding hotspots so when I've figured out where on earth I put it I'll have a better idea of where I'd like to try.0 -

Turin's our nearest airport!
In that case you'll be heading my way I reckon. Check out Bardonecchia, Sauze d'Oulx and Claviere/Montgenevre all near me
Was speaking to some Italian riders a couple months back who were rating Bardonecchia - apparently they had some Canadian trail builders there a couple of years back so the place is really good. Sauze d'Oulx was/is on the UCI circuit I think. Didn't get to any of these places this year due to work but will try and do more exploring next summer"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Well if prices of the current Mega frame drop anymore cos of these I'm afraid it's gonna have to be that with the oversize fork..and just see what happens..."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Have you checked if you can lower that fork? Most RS forks its possible just add some spacers to fork.
Here is a video showing you how:
http://www.pinkbike.com/video/145515/
but would be worth double checking with TF Tuned or someone similar that the same process can be applied to your fork.0 -

I'm presuming you can. Did send an email to the supplier but maybe I'll go straight to SRAM or like you say check with TFTuned
Using such a slow connection, if I start DLing that vid now - I might be able to watch it in the morning...I sh1t you not!

Might just stick a 650B on the back - that should get the HA back on point :P"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Have found an absolute bargain that will sort all this out once and for all...
...but the website won't let me put in a French or UK address!! Have to wait til tomorrow to give them a call and see if I can sort it over the phone. If I miss out on this I shall not be happy :x"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
