I am completely new to cycling having not rode a bike since I about 13. (I took to it easy it was like riding a bike!) I have completed my first ride today around Basingstoke: 10.28 miles start 0757, finish 0843 it had a couple of good inclines to get my heart and legs going. I'm 43yrs old and weigh in at 11st 2lb at 5ft 7ins. I only got my Carrera TDF yesterday and the front derailer did not allow me to go to the large cog (not that I would have done it much). Also the right pedal started to click with pressure which will need sorting.

What should I be aiming for distance and or time? I am definitely going to increase the distance but have no real idea..

No need to concern yourself with time just yet, just ride your bike, try hour rides and see how you get on.

Do a search around the forums, road beginners have plenty of threads on average speed and distance discussions
  • You might find that the bike hasn't been set up properly. I recommend you take it back to the shop for a tweaking (with a new bike it is a good idea anyway after the first few hundred miles or six weeks, whichever is the sooner, but if there are probs better to go sooner). Certainly the pedal should be sorted in case there has been any cross threading. As for the gears not shifting across, sometimes they can be stiff to start with but not shifting at all suggest that some cables need adjusting. I am hopeless with that sort of thing and usually end up making things worse rather than better, but my LBS can sort it all out for me!
  • I've arranged to return to the shop tomorrow they'll sort out both issues. I'm also going to increase the pace slightly afterwards. My bum is aching a little which means I can go faster and push harder.

Why are they better? I have the AZORE MENS COOLFLO CYCLE SHORTS

The mens Coolflo Cycle Shorts from Azore are designed with comfort and protection in mind. The shorts have an eight panel construction that moulds to the body and a moulded seat pad, for optimum comfort...... :?

Well you told me to post more!
