Never been to uni ta very much but I'm very good at spotting when someone is taking the p!ss (including you, you are either a troll or a muppet) and that is when someone wants me to pay £50 to watch someone act very badly that they may have hurt themselves. If I want theatre I already know where to look to see where the good actors are performing but when I go to a sports stadium then that is what I expect to see, sport, not some twunt wasting my precious leisure time attempting something they cleary have no talent for.0 -

I'm not taking the p!ss, I'm just trying to come up with theories. I mean, if people that don't watch, or pay to watch football are still annoyed by it, there must be a deeper resentment there.
I mean, how hard is it just to not let it annoy you?All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

I'm nearly to the point where I don't let it annoy me thankfully. I'm not actually bothered about the wages players receive, quite happy to let market forces take responsibility for that, it's mainly about how the game is played. I guess I'm annoyed because a game I grew up with and loved, both playing and watching, has become unrecognisable to me. It has been taken away as a possible source of enjoyment as I find the modern form of it so frustrating to watch and FIFA seem to be quite happy about that, along with the fools that now lap it up as entertainment. But there you go, another 2 seasons at most and I probably won't even be looking at the results anymore let alone contemplating being a viewer.0 -
I certainly don't blame footballers for taking the money that is offered to them, I just think it's going to cause the game enormous damage in the end. The Premier League clubs have got MASSIVE debts and that is mainly down to the inflated wages paid to the players.
Median pre-tax weekly earnings in the UK are about £500. There will come a point at which even the most witless football realises that spending 10% of that to go and watch a football match isn't worth it. In particular, young men will be unable to take their boys to matches in the future, with massive rent or mortgages to pay off. Without fans there is nothing. Treat these fans like crap and you'll turn them away.0 -

I support a semi pro side, pay my money, shout and swear where necessary/needed-- have a drink after with other fans, and players, its a whole world away from being a 'viewer'--
There is more than corporate football, thousands of us don't go with that illusion0 -
Well. Classic example at play here.
Wife is ill so in bed. I have full run of the TV and Football Focus is on showing the highlights of today.
I hear something in the background but I can't even be bothered to look up from this site and watch the replays of the goals.
I have followed football for 45 years but have now lost all interest........None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Pity, 'cos there have been some fantastic goals tonight.
I know what you mean, though. My team, Bolton, lost in an opening day local derby today. I just shrugged.0 -
Was someone in this thread talking about Lukaku<sp?> ??
He was great today. Obvious that he deserves to be a well paid player, and put in plenty of effort and scored after making a big deal about not getting to play, against a so called top team.
I love coming back from a cycle to check the scores and see Liverpool hammered. I can barely contain my delight!
Some fantastic goals, skills, passing, etc in most of the PL games today. Two 5-0 victories, Swansea could have won 8-0. If you honestly think you get this quality and pace in any non-top flight league, then you don't get football. Try and comprehend the vast amount of good aspects to the game instead of agonising about a couple of small ones.
I don't like the tackling / diving issues, but if you appreciate all the good stuff, rather than just expect it by default, then you'll enjoy the game a whole lot more. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Off to pour another dram, sign off here, change channel and probably give up and listen to music anyway.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
There would appear to be an epidemic of people falling out of love with what was once known as the beautiful game. I'm a season ticket holder at Chelsea so you would think what with the new young players coming in I would be really excited by the new season ahead, but I'm not. For the last few seasons I have seriously considered giving up my season ticket (still can't quite bring myself to do it) as I am really sick of the modern day game. The play acting, the blatant cheating, the refusal of managers to admit when their players are in the wrong... all of it. Do you know what though? The thing that is turning me off the game more than anything is the lack of genuine enjoyment, there is no fun in the game anymore. As a kid growing up there were some real characters amongst the players, they looked liked they enjoyed playing the game. On the terraces there was real humour, some of the songs or comments you'd hear would make you really laugh, and now, apart from the odd occasion, all you see are really screwed up angry faces, and all you tend to hear are spiteful humourless chants. Thinking about it I had more laughs when we were skint and sh*t!
And having said all that, as soon as we play a important game the knots will grow in my stomach and I will be that young lad in the Peter Osgood kit again. Funny old game.0 -

Hope to god your trolling because you ve just got a major bite.
I m 42 did nt go to uni until I was 32, spent the first 12 years or my working life in the Army, Saw my first action and lost my first real good freind in Namibia aged 18. The only career path i ve ever followed certainly had fuck all to do about pay and I ve never been bitter towards anyone who earned more than me. Subsequently I ve worked as a prison officer and a teacher and the only renumeration I ve ever valued is the positive effect I ve had in supporting others to achieve their goals.
If that goal was to be a Professional sportsman so be it and good luck, If it was to become a worthless piece of shit human being like John Terry then sorry I ve just withdrawn,
I judge a man by the content of his character and not his bank balance no matter how earned and how much it dwarfs my own.0
