Hi All
I'm just getting back into cycling after a two year break, and picked up the latest issue of Cycling Plus. On page 155 there's an areticle called "Hit Your Sweet Spot". In the article, some guy called Frank Overton states the following:
Is it me or is that completely wrong. Even ignoring power, 95% heart rate is no way medium hard. And 90% threshold power is something you should be able to keep up for 2hrs+. So according to him that's the same as 95% heart rate.
Am I missing something?
Cheers

The sweet spot relates to a balance in the intensity and volume of your training. It lies between high zone 3 and low zone 4 at around 90% threshold power. If you don't have a power meter this roughly equates to 95% heart rate, or you can consider this level "medium hard"

Frank would be talking about 95% of your typical HR when riding at threshold, not your HRmax.0

Thanks for the clarification. So by "threshold power", he actually means "your power at threshold pace" as opposed to "functional threshold power"? I guess the lack of the word "functional" should have given it away!0

I'd be pretty sure if Frank said threshold power, he would be referring to FTP. What pace one does while riding at FTP is a function of many things.0
