White shoes: yeah or nay?

So....I'm looking to buy some new disco slippers to replace my 12 year old Specialized Comp (MTB) shoes that I currently use for commuting.
I've seen a pair I like in a rather fetching white. Only thing is I'm a middle aged man and not sure white shoes will really suit, plus what colour socks do you wear with white shoes?
Thoughts?

Personally no, they look a like someone's making too much effort; ok for pro boys but not down here.
Course I used to think Lance looked a bit of a prat in black socks, but now Wiggo wears the same thing they look good. On him.0 -

Nay. Reminds me too much of the 80's and not in a good way.0

The rules:
7. Cycling shoes must contain at least 80% white!
The following exceptions apply…
i) Colours combinations such as world cup stripes, or Olympic gold where title has been EARNED.
ii) Shoes which are custom-made for specific riders by companies endorsed by this group. These shoes will be accessible to the particular cyclist only, and shall follow the preceding rules.
8. If white cycling shoes are not available where you reside, white booties with prominent logos shall always be worn. When booties are worn, socks should protrude approximately 7 centimetres above the ankle, and shall always protrude at least 1.5cm from any booties worn.0 -

White shoes. White socks.
Just keep 'em clean.0 -

White is the way forward. looks even better if you have managed to pick up any suntan during this abysmal Summer.0 -
I bought a white bike frame, then i bought white shoes cos they make you go faster. Then I used both to commute in London, neither are still white.

Complete tosh.
Especially as Rule 7 is tan lines and Rule 8 is matching of bar tape, tyres and saddle.

Frilly pink ones, if you are going to look like a tart, you might as well look like a proper tart.Bianchi Infinito CV

Although I do also own a pair of white football boots I use for my Saturday team... hmmm0 -
Buy what you want. Nobody is bothered what shoes you've got on.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Impress others with your speed. If that fails, impress with your wardrobe. 'Twas ever thus.0

i'd pretty much mentally committed to buy them at £109-99 when I saw them (the white shoes) at Cycle Surgery for £87-99 so I have chosen the click and collect option, paid up and am leaving the office shortly to pick them up.
So if from tomorrow you see an old bloke looking slightly uncomfortable in his white shoes on CS7 feel free to give me some feedback on them (altho it would be nice if you said hello first).FCN = 40 -
I look fantastic in my white Mavics (albeit with the Morrison's logo)...but then again it is the default footwear colour for where I reside.0

I reckon yeah, or more pointedly buy whatever you want :-)
I prefer black shoes, but had the option of getting a pair of these for £99 and did so:
