Will Wiggins win BBC Sport Personality?

I think it should be Wiggo, because his accomplishments this year have been amazing. But it wouldn't surprise me if BBC went for Ennis.0

Ennis is the "face of the games" and all that as well as being an incredible athlete - she'll get the popular vote I'm sure.
I'll be voting for Wiggo.
With both athletics and cycling, technology has crept in but overall, I think we all like to get to grips with the sportsperson underneath all that fancy clothing/footwear.
I'm hoping the BBC appreciate that and parade the SPOTy hopefuls in their birthday suits.
I'll make my vote then and only then.0 -

There are some pretty strong moves to abolish the SPOTY this year and just award it to TeamGB. There have been far too many 'personalities' this year to fit a pin between them. It would be a tragedy if it were given to someone just on the basis on how popular they are/were on facebook, twitter etc...
I've noticed a few football facebook pages that are already calling for mass voting for footy players to pish off the 'Olympians'.Big Red, Blue, Pete, Bill & Doug0 -

You've highlighted the problem with the whole award, no-one actually knows how to define it and some years there are very slim pickings indeed as far as candidates go whilst this year we have a glut. Plus the BBC have now been fiddling with the format and the scheduling for the last few years in order to breathe life into it, there were less than half a million votes last year from the entire country, all when sport really should be above such cheap x-factor style nonsense given how much effort they are all putting in at very different disciplines. This also comes from a channel that has less and less sports coverage as the years pass! It's guff.0 -
Whilst I don't hold winning the SPOTY as being the pinnacle of an sportspersons career - I am fascinated (and delighted) that, even if not one more second of sport is played this year, we have so many possible candidates.
They've all accomplished so much in their own way - my shortlist would currently be Wiggo, Ennis, Trott, Hoy.
It's entirely possible Trott could get it, not just because she's accomplished so much but also because of her personality (so happy and smiling all the time, and totally amazed with the Olympics experience and also her own achievements).
But then Wiggo has won practically everything this year, including the TDF.
Ennis dealt with the pressure of being the "face" of London 2012 and came away with gold.
Hoy, well, he became the GBs greatest Olympic IMHO.
Then you've got Pendleton, Farrah, Grainger (finally a Gold!), Ainslie, Murray who all could be a suprise winner.
If there is even one single footballer in the shortlist, I will die a little inside, and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5mLjKI968g) will be my reaction.
Edit : Oh, and GB Cycle team for the team win - both male and female together.0
