Did anyone see Denise Lewis shouting "1,2! We won 1,2!" after the 100m final last night?

If so, can we have our lottery money back please, see if Jamaica will reimburse you.

Denise Lewis - born and raised in the West Midlands. Competed for GB all her life winning bronze and gold at the Olympics. Perfectly acceptable for her to cheer for the Country of her heritage (Jamaica), especially when there is no GB runner in the line up.

    Daily Mail that way

After watching her a*se jumping up and down in spray on trousers while she cheered on Mo Farah I would suggest the lottery money was very well spent!

My copy of Total Sport circa 2002 corroborates this.

Apologies then, but you'd be amazed at how many people are serious when they say that sort of thing. As someone of mixed race, it hacks me right off!
  • Not sure if it's been mentioned, but whay has Tanni Grey Thompson been the "expert" for cycling? She doesn't seem to be that knowledgable about cycling.

    Apologies if I offended.

I am a long term admirier of Ms. Lewis's talents and the above mentioned Total Sport occupied a fond place in my youthful imaginings.

    I've said too much.

Best Case - She's ticking a compliance box and watched the last TT and the Paris stage in August and so therefore is a cycling fan. Worst case - wheelchairs have wheels like bikes and so she must know about cycling too...

She only seems to do The Stuff on the Mall though. It's a shame as she was a talented athlete and a great inspiration but this TV stuff just looks a bit pathetic - and I'll give almost everyone the benefit of the doubt, even Linekar! Do you reckon ITV have some sort of exclusitivity thingum on Boulting and Rendell? The ES crew were obviously covereing it for ES...

  • On Gary Linekar, I don't at all dislike him, but he's just dull. Dull, dull, dull. That's why he got made a presenter, dull and not in the least bit controversial. He's just not very interesting or exciting, too monotone to be a good TV presenter.

Alan Green irritates the hell out of me, at least in football commentary. The main problem is that everytime a player makes a mistake, miscontrols the ball, plays a poor pass, or the officials get something wrong he always sounds like they made that mistake for the sole reason of pissing him off. And they succeed.

On a more positive note I've been very impressed with Simon Brotherton's cycling commentary on the radio. Heard the Wiggo TT commentary on the way home from work and he made a cycling time trial, on the radio, really exciting. Did a very good job with the men's sprint today and got a brief chance during the elimination race, though the beeb geniously decided to miss 7 eliminations at the end so they could play a round-up of the day's action, which they really could have delayed for 5 minutes so we could hear commentary of a British World Champion in one of the most exciting events in the olympics. They cut back for the last 50 seconds at least.

The BBC presenting team has been excellent with the exception of Lineker. He was down right rude to Michael awesome Johnson yesterday, asking him a question and then paying no attention to the reply. The natural sucessor to Des Lynam's throne was Steve Ryder. Sad day for presenting when Lineker got Match of the Day and Ryder left. :(

Commentators are an odd topic. This last week or so I have seen veteran commentator Barry Davies getting a lot praise from people - 'masterclass', 'showing how it should be done', etc.
The thing is, everyone who actually plays the sport he's commentating on - hockey - thinks he's utter crap and completely clueless.

I'm sorry but the man that uttered the immortal line, 'And where were the Germans.....and frankly, who cares!' will always be a legend in my eyes.

I've been thinking this, there are probably lots of people out there thinking what a good job Porter is doing. Unless you know the ins and outs yourself you don't notice the glaring errors! I find hockey a really hard sport to follow just because there seem to be so many infringements all the time. The only bit I'm qualified to comment on is that the Dutch team is full of fit ladies and the GB girls are certainly a step up from past years.

If you know nothing of the sport, it's tough to know if the commentator is good or not.

Davies seems to commentate the hockey like a football match (unsurprisingly). Could have probably guessed that that's not quite right.

The problem with Porter is that cycling is supposed to be his speciality. Davies is obviously a football commentator.

The other specialist commentators have been good.
