Hello folks.

Just looking for some thoughts on HR zones.

What sort of zone should I be trying to stay in during a run of anything from 20 - 30 miles ?

Percentage...ish

All of them! Depending on the terrain at any particular point in the ride and how fast you want to cover it.

I presume you mean in order to get fitter? Or is it to build speed? Or are you just starting out and simply want to survive it?
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

To get fitter you need need to mix up intensities.

For a 2 hour or less ride then you should be aiming for 75% or more as per above.

You may aim to ride most of the time at a steady intensity or do shorter intervals but aiming for higher HR.

e.g. aim to ride hard for around 5 minutes trying to get HR above 95% by the end, recover and repeat. (Hills are often good for this).
