Fitting Goodridge brake hose collars is sooooo easy!

hi,
ever tried fitting a collar onto a braided 'Goodridge' hose ? Bet it wasn't easy....some say 'remove the outer hose sleeve' and others...
What I do is : keep sleeve on,put an 8 m/m socket onto your cordless or other drll put collar into socket, select 'fast' speed on drill, square up to the end of the neatly cut braided hose, with one action apply forward pressure onto drill and pull trigger !Be carefull not to spin the collar when hose is totally inserted so for sake of ease mark the outer with a bit of masking/electrical tape.Fitting the collars should take no more than 10 seconds per end of hose. There you go ;)

That is assuming you feel any desire whatsoever to waste cash on Goodridge hoses.

  • WASTING CASH ?? try coming off your bike due to some idiot dogwalker strolling up a black graded dh track, hitting the dog,and crashing into trees.Back onto bike, get home, wash bike and find one of the brake hoses having been bent double......think again notsocooldad

Having given it some serious thought, nope, still a waste of cash.

  • Would also agree that its a waste of cash... heavier, more expensive, don't increase power etc etc.

    they are expensive yes

but coolishdad in your opinion they are a waste of money

    keep that nice and clear

I think driving a 4wd or buying a "the peter" is a waste of money (but the owners of x5's with a 9xx peter would argue differently)

dropper seat post are defo a waste of money cos they cost 8 times as much as a nice brake hose...... (and it will look boss on the x5....)

I have braided hoses (and expect to keep the brakes for an incredibly long time) is that good value.........

Fittings, just pre assemble to check and note where the threads meet before assembly, so you wont cross them, nothing else needed

and there is an increase in feel and power due to less hose stretch and the greater volume of fluid within the system, will help with the heat

Hose stretch does not decrease power, is a myth. It can cause the brake to feel more 'modulated', and in turn, this will change the dynamics of the brake lever. But this can work both ways. Given that many standard hoses are braided anyway, I personally see little reason to change.

Is there any point to braided hoses? I've seen them burst plenty of times on cars and sinks so always assumed they were crap.

    Doh, got me there.
I'm certain you know that I was referring to aftermarket braided steel hoses though, the stupid "blingy" type.
It's not just mountain biking that suffers this affliction either, they're popular in motorcycling too.

What's cable rub like with them? Regular plastic coated hoses can be bad enough, are 'bling' braided hoses like mini cheese graters?!

I am confused by the following:

    - what has that to do with the subject at hand?

    - what is "the peter"?

    - x5? Trance? 9xx peter? is it something to do with gearing?

    - but a dropper post has a purpose where as the brake hoses dont or am I missing something?
