First ride out after 100 mile sportive just over 2 weeks ago which made my knees hurt for days, i had a slow ride to my starting point today and after 1.5 miles my knees were starting to hurt already but i carried on and did four miles along a section of road that i like to travel, doing 20.28avg speed. when i got back i altered my saddle height cleats and saddle position to try and stop my knees hurting weather this works i dont know.
I suffer from Anterior knee pain, and i cant really afford £150 on a bike fit, does anyone have any suggestions that i could try to help ease the pain in my knees?

How much do you normally cycle? And has this ever happened before? What age are you?
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Is it not best to go and see a physio? Knee problems are often the result of something else and with you being knelt down most of your working day I wouldn't be surprised if the various muscles around the hip were the issue. A physio will be able to say for certain and give you the correct exercises to help recovery. But is your set up right too? Too long or too short in the leg extension and bend could have an effect.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Whereabouts around the knee does it hurt? Above the knee? Below? Front? Back? Inside? Outside?

See a physio - the job might be causing knee inflammation / tendon damage which you only notice when you cycle. I think pain in front of knee on a bike can be due to sitting too low/too far back. Perhaps a good bike shop or club could help you with bike fit without shelling out loads of money.

A carpet fitter without bad knees? You're some kind of biological freak and will need to be investigated. Only then can you turn your attention to why your bike is making them hurt.

My pain is at the front of the knee and yes I've never suffered from painful knees while fitting , only when I ride, most of my pain while carpet fitting is from my back with bending over all the time and tendinitis in both elbows. I never get any pain unless I cycle
