  • Can I just say if you can, get the videos. They're incredibly motivational but also entertaining. Music is perfect to keep you moving too. I find they make the turbo more of a gratifying experience although they are painful. I try and do one a week, generally as my high intensity session.

Setting up a bit of a music streaming system on my home network. Once this in place and I can store the Down loads on Network Accessible Storage and push them out to the Shed/Garage to a Sonos speaker system, then I ll invest in the full Video setup.

Am I the only one that doesn't really like the videos? Not the idea, just the execution.

They just aren't very high in image quality or production value, I hate when they repeat bits of video, and as someone else once put it .. they're a bit 'American'.

I love the idea of the sufferfest - its a great tool.

I think I'd prefer it if the footage was more 'on board' rather than from outside the bike race. Theres some great GoPro footage from bike races and it keeps you more in the moment.

Looking at the race side on from a motorbike kind of takes me out of the moment somehow.

Cant you just do it off the laptop ? Video, sound and trainerroad all in one place ? Its training - its not like you need a screen the size of the Odeon in Leicester Square to make it enjoyable. :-)

Your right Coughie, its a bit O.T.T but the sound from the lap top is pretty crap and the turbo is pretty noisey,

Its more the music than the actual vid, I want , I find training with Music really pushes me on, but I would never wear headphones on the road, Riding or Running.

I can run on a treadmill with in hear headphones on with no issue, but find they drop out really easy due to excess sweat on the turbo.

I m setting up a multi room system any way for general home use and back up storage so I might as well extend it to the cave.

I m going to give Cyclops virtual training a look on Demo (my trainer is a Cyclops) as Nap has reported good stuff, before I commit fully to Sufferfest.
  • I think they are the only cycling vids with any character! So many I have downloaded have been so devoid of life or humour. I don't think I'll ever feel like I'm "in the video" as such in today's technological state although putting a virtual reality helmet or stepping onto the holodeck would really work for the turbo :)

Announcement today for higher resolution. Haven't tried it yet.

    Perhaps on the iPad.

Not sure I am fussed. With all the sweat in my eyes I can't see shot anyway.

^^this, I prob listen to the music more than watch the footage. I do like the end of workout recovery music and footage on a very dear place though. Also thing the wretched is pretty well put together.

^^* A very dark place that should read!
  • Revolver is just bloody evil, I did this at 260 and it was tough. I upped my FTP to 265 and just felt like I was losing all the way through....is this the toughest sub 1 hour work out?

    I think it probably is.

The long scream is only 36 min and is pretty horrible but in a different way - a single 30 minute constant effort pretty much all over FTP, proper chew the handle bars stuff towards the end.

I've only done 'A Very Dark Place' up to now and can't imagine much tougher. I have had ISLAGIATT since Christmas but too scared to fire it up when I realised it was 2 hours.

Its awesome, it and the blender for some proper indoor endurance work!
  • I use Planet X Resistance rollers (made by Sportctafters) and TR has given me a FTP of 161. I notice that the power curve for these rollers is based on a 152lb rider. Now I am 215lb (big boned!) and presumably this will have an impact on the accuracy of my power output - is there any way of working a more accurate estimate of my FTP. Just curiosity as I will obviously stick with the TR figure for my workouts.

^I have the same rollers (cycleops branded) and use them on TR alongside a jet fluid pro turbo.
My FTP on the turbo is 247, haven't measured it with rollers but I know it would be much less, probably around 180.
Which one is right? Probably neither but the are both consistent at least, which works for me.
Rider weight and tyre pressure have a big impact on roller, so I usually have both tyres at 120psi and I'm working on my bit!

Lads, probably a well asked question but here we go anyway.

I need to buy a cassette for my training wheel which I am setting up purely for a turbo trainer.
I have Dura Ace on the bike but intend to run a 10 ring 105 cassette on the training wheel.
What is the best ratio to install?

    Thanks

I'd maybe look at what I have on the road bike - if thats close ratio too - I'd maybe get a bigger one for the turbo wheel - that way you have one ready if you're doing a jaunt to the Alps or something. OK you'll have slightly bigger gaps - but that shouldnt be too much of an issue.

Ooh, that'd be good if you could get one. Thought 105 lowest was just 12-23

Yeh you're right, you can't get one. I would have thought that'd be pretty popular.

  • I posted a suggestion to the improvements forum - wouldn't it be good to have workouts that replicated specific classic climbs (Ventoux, ADH in an hour, Kappelmuur repeats?? etc).

If you like the idea, pls vote for it! https://trainerroad.uservoice.com/forum ... giro-climb

Just about to join the Bike Radar group on TR so see you in there.

Would it not just be an hour long high effort pretty much flat line ?

Check out the last graph on here - last part of the Ventoux I think - http://intern.srm.de/index.php/us/srm-b ... oux-tdf-09

You could recreate that in your garage - but its not going to be much fun !

Yeah you could replicate an hour-long just under threshold effort but what I was thinking of was the variations in gradient requiring different power outputs - Col de Madeleine has downhill sections where you can recover a little, for example.

Thought it would be a nice feature for those of us targetting Alpine sportives this summer 8)

Well, my power output up ADH and Galibier was pretty much steady, no change at all for an hour or so.
