  • I've pretty much given up on TR now. I initially tested at 188 back in the autumn and then got my FTP up to 239. However, as soon as I increased my FTP to 239, I found I was unable to complete workouts - even with reducing the intensity to 95% or below. My last test gave me an FTP of 190...back to where I started!!!

I'm sure nothing in my set up has changed. Anyone else had this problem?

Can you change the resistance on the turbo? This may account for the intermediate change.

You aren't using a JetFluid Pro by any chance?
  • No, I'm using a Minoura V130. Still on the same resistance level it's always been on. The only time I changed it was when I used my girlfriend's Tacx for one session. I then changed the source back to Minoura.

Is there a problem with the Jet Fluid Pro?

There are two profiles for the JetFluid Pro on TR now, one based on CycleOps' own stats, and one TR measured themselves with a Powertap. If you have the wrong one selected, you have your virtual power output effectively chopped by about 25% meaning you are way down on where you think you should be (and are).

Just wondering if perhaps there are two for your Minoura with similar differences? (Can't check from the iPad)

How could anyone resist... unless they are on holiday in California

I'm probably due an FTP test before then. The week before the euro du champs I beat a lot of power PBs on TR so FTP has likely increased.
8 days on TR in a row? I think I'd maybe leave the FTP retest until after the Tour Chris......

Bit of a toss up... I'm still away (in California :D ) until Saturday then have a 10km road race Monday so Wednesday-Friday would be ideal for a test. The I'd be good for the ToC at the new power. Though the thought of an FTP test does make me feel slightly unwell.

It's the thought of the ToC at a new, higher FTP that's making me feel unwell!

I have a question for all of you knowledgable guys out there!

I'm thinking about taking the plunge with the ToC but the last day coincides with the day of a sportive I've entered. Even if I don't manage to complete all stages would a session a day for the 7 days leading up to the sportive be good or bad for stamina on the day?

Thanks in a advance for any advice

    Nice one NapD!

Definitely time for an FTP test - 109.8 TSS and 1.093 IF in 55m37s ride!

Handful - depends whether you want to smash the sportive or just attend. Plus i thing you get ~50 hours to do each day of the ToC due the way the time zones work.

Thanks ChrisSA, do you mean if I do the ToC I should smash the sportive or be so knackered I would just be attending? To be fair I don't think I'll ever smash a sportive but I'd like to try and do the best I can. Thanks for the info on time differences too!

You'll be absolutely shot for the sportive but it would round off a good training block!

The rides themselves aren't available to view yet but there's now a description of each stage on the TR tour homepage. Looks like it might be a tough one.....

Signed up for the ToC last week, the summary makes it look like it could be a great challenge - rather worringly I'm now looking forward to it. Decided not to retest despite ending an 8 week block - didn't fancy the ToC with a new FTP. I'm a coward...

Well, I tried a retest tonight which I gave up on. Had nothing in the legs and could not get my breathing right.

So far, I have met my weight goals, but am battling with increasing my FTP. I've been training for the Marmotte, and have increased my hours a lot and feel fitter overall. All my strava segments are getting better, but I don't think my FTP has increased.

Yeah looks OK, thankfully. I don't fancy the sprints yet - had the most ridiculous accident day before yesterday involving a loom and a bed-stead and my left knee is still about 50% bigger than my right... second TR tour, second time i've managed to make it harder for myself - i'd like to attribute these things to dietrologia, but I suspect stupidity may be to blame.

Just completed the first stage. Was actually fairly doable although I realised my saddle was pointing slightly left after about 15 minutes which became a PITA towards the end. Hope all 8 days are so easy going. Doubt they will be though! :D

This maybe silly but where do they send the workout to? I signed up for the TOC but do not have anything in my page as of yet?

    Thanks

Well i just completed stage one of the Tour !Phew  Did not find it too easy or too hard ,,,did cock up and struggle a bit on the lead up to and on the final finishing sprint ,,went too early ,could not sustain the lead up power..then went too early for the sprint and died before the peak.
I really enjoyed stage 1 ,,but looking at other tour members results it looks like evreyone went power nuts and for personal bests ,,lots of medals :?

I did not know really how to play it at the start of the first stage ,,,paced myself ,did not want to crash and burn ...What is the strategy for these tours ,,,,does everyone get a tour medal at the end...is there a top ten ...overall winner!

How are you guys playing it?

I'm taking it easy - the first sprint today I gave the beans, but it was only 5s. The last was a little harder.

The profile didn't look too hard, but I found it tough. I'm more of a TTer.

Just finished stage 2 and found that real tough going towards the end - tomorrow looks slightly less than cuddly too. One more stage after that, however, and it's bike fit time at Bike Science slap in the middle of the tour.. i'm going to be very interested in seeing how that effects things !

I finished stage 2 5 hours ago ,left work early and rode home faster so i could while motivated get stage two completed.
Beginning to to realise what this tour consists off,, pain ,sweat ..and lots of effort with threshold intervals... :o

I was holding my own most of stage 2 ,,but my legs and lungs just gave up during the last short climbs ,,my legs were like
jelly starting those 3 x 30s power ramps at the last climb..?

Enjoying it though,,,,Legs still feel ok no stiffness yet ,,,,but as the tour goes on that might change,,dreading the TT !
