it is £333.
Another ok bike but I would still buy the RR.
Rockrider has:
- Better brakes
- More gears
- Ability to go and test ride at a Decathlon store - you can't go to Germany for a test ride.
Apart from that they both have a fairly standard collection of heavy, 'will do the job ok' parts.
As said before - if you can be patient and save up a bit more, £500 will get you much more bike for your money and will get you an excellent starter bike and possibly a good base to start upgrading. If you can't wait - the RR, Commencal or Merida would be ok.0 -
I would seriously forget anything to do with a DH bike until you and your riding have improved enough to participate in it.0

As above, buy a hardtail with 100/120mm forks. There are some very good bikes for less than £500. If you have £500 then get the Rockrider 8.1. £450 the Commencal Ramones or Cannondale SL4 (the former is more heavy duty). £400 bags you the GT Avalanche or this, the Voodoo Bantu:

You ain't going to find many with a better spec than that, air forks are rare for this money.0 -

Is the GT limited to 100mm? Strong frame like that may be a little more of a step in the right direction perhaps?0 -
Up to 130mm.0

If you're looking at Merida, then get the Pro-D (upgraded 40-D I believe) from Merlin (£275 with a 10% discount on top):

The £250 leaves you plenty left in your budget for a new set of forks and some new pedals, which is what I fully intend to do to mine. The rest of the bike is pretty solid (or so I've found) - brakes are good, riding position is nice, gears shift fairly smoothly.0
