I'm guessing it goes without saying that jerseys etc, half the uk prices, bought from China are going to be fakes.

However, has anyone taken a chance and been pleasantly suprised??? I mean its likey that the UK goods are manufactured over there anyway......

I had a punt on a 2012 team sky set, for 30 pound inc postage. bought off ebay before they removed the listing. I have a genuine 2011 jersey so am able to make a comparison to that but not to another 2012 jersey. The blue in it is ever so slighty darker than the 2011 one and the jersey is slightly longer at the back. the shorts look genuine but i have nothing to compare them too. The jersey and shorts however are both good quality kit and the jersey feels just as good to ride in as my genuine one. The shorts are comfortable and the pad very well shaped, did 50 miles yesterday and no soreness/ chafing. For the money worth a punt, would like to compare to a genuine 2012 set tho.

    Monton cycling do them too.

Almost as good as the real thing - but seeing as my adidas sky shorts came apart after a few wears - I'm hoping these will be better.

Pro team kit is disposable these days - too many kit changes. I'm not paying £160 for kit that's out of date almost as soon as you buy them. Yes garmin - that's you.

    +1 for Monton

Bought a winter top and thermal bib tights in January and they're warm and indestructable, plus look good!

Downsides are quality of zips and fitting at cuffs and ankles, but for the price I've been really impressed, will definitely get more.

    What should I go for?

    TIA

Ordered a Monton Espana Movistar jersey a week ago - for 17 quid. Not expecting it to be perfect, I will give sizing and quality opinions when it arrives..........

I remember the first Rock Racing kit that Harrods had in. It was something ludicrous like £130 for a top. The Chinese quality isnt far off that.

The new Rock Racing kit that Planet X stock is a lot better now. And cheaper than the original.

I'd go XL or XXL. I am 40" chest and 33" waist and went for XL - fitted just fine.
  • Thanks Calpol

I agree that the quality of the zips is a problem, I bought a jersey and shorts set from Monton but after about 6 or so rides the zip puller broke and I was left standing in a fully zipped up jersey that I couldn't get open. I tried all sorts including pliers but ended up having to get my wife to cut me out of it. Massively gutted as it was a great jersey, good quality and fit, I'm going to contact them and see if they'll replace it.

I'm 6ft, 40 chest and 34 waist, ordered xl and fits fine (although could do with the legs being longer but reckon their shorts would be ok).

No probs with customs, think they took about 3 weeks to arrive which is what they quoted upfront (it was over Christmas) so overall v happy.

Think i'm gonna risk buying some kit from Monton.

    Couple of questions -

Do they all have the sticky banding around the bottom of the Jerseys and around the arms to prevent them riding up unecessarily?

When looking at the sizing, i'll go from measurements rather than s/m/l etc. What I wanted to know is if Monton say that its a 40" chest, then is the jersey measured 40" or is the jersey slightly tighter and the person wearing it is 40"? I've got a jersey which is a fit i'm happy with so want to gauge the fit on that particular size.

Are the bibs a good size? I have 2 pairs of DHB shorts, but one is slightly short on the bib I suspect and digs in a bit over longer rides.

I dont think they have the banding round the bottom - but mine dont ride up anyway.

The measurements tend to be a tad smaller than you'd think - so i'd go up a size. Its like the sporting fit of some italian/swiss kit..
The bibs are about the same length as the rest of my shorts really - not much difference.

Oh and if you go to the Monton site - they have all sorts of designs on there. Some that I dont think are pro teams - or if they are - they're obscure.

To take it on a stage... a mate of mine has used http://www.eclipsecycling.com and made up his own one off design for about £25.

Nowhere in the UK can compete with that and he says the jersey is good.

We are looking to take our team kit to them.

I've just bought a Jersey & Bib set from Monton to see what the quality is like, and also what the sizing is like. If it doesnt fit, or if the quality isnt up to scratch, then I can always eBay it. A set for £29 is too good not to give it a go.

If it is decent, i'll go back for a few more kits, probably try the warmers and gloves too. I've tried a fair bit of what I would consider middle of the road stuff, and its much of a muchness. I've bought more expensive too and didnt really find that the quality was better than the cheaper stuff. Just havent got the money for Shutt/Assos stuff though.
  • The jerseys from Monton look pretty good and the combo sets seem good value. I'm looking at the SaxoBank kit with gloves and arm warmers. Con anyone confirm the length of the zip (the last Chinese top I bought had a zip which went about half way down) and whether the shorts have the rubber/silicone on around the leg hems to stop them riding up?

    Thanks all
Still trying to convince the missus of the n+1 rule...!

I spoke to Monton online and they said that all shorts have grips. If you want grips on the jersey then to specify it at the checkout. I'm expecting mine in about a week.

Delivery from most of these places is understandably slow :)
  • OK mine arrived this morning, I ordered a UCI World Champion Bibshorts and Jersey same as Cav's kit.

    Im impressed!!!!

For £30.00 delivered the quality on the shirt print is very good, the material and tags suggest it is a proper 'coolmax' material and the fit is fine. No latex/rubber strips on the bottom of shorts or shirt but the fit overall is comfy and you can live with it for this price.

Just about to order another shirt and long sleeve thermal top now to go with it.

Took just over 2 weeks and no VAT or import duty to pay when post office worker came to deliver.

Comparing it today in my LBS the quality is comparably the same, and as for the fact that the SKY team through Wiggle are charging TWICE as much for just a SSJersey these are well worth a punt.
The padding in the shorts isnt gel or anything special but does have many panels and i find it better than some of the cheaper ones i have bought before!.

They look like pretty decent deals - shorts and shirt for $52. I'm guessing the shorts don't have any padding in though?
  • They do have padding in them... standard bibshorts as if you got them from Monton, or Wiggle.
