Does strike me that Victoria Pendleton has an alternate agenda.
What with posing for FHM, a TV Documentary and a number of articles in papers and magazines.
Just strikes me she should be concentrating on the job in hand, the upcoming Olympics.

I have nothing but the greatest respect for her past achievments, but is she displaying a little lack of focus at this point in time?

I concur that competitors have to consider life after their sporting career ends.

other question is how long has all this been sat in the pile of 'articles that we'll have on file and pull out when the olympics come round' probably a good few months....

Chances are these are her last olympics and she's probably playing the %ages game. Cash in now while she can or run the risk of failing and with it a lot of her earning potential down the drain. 'Cos at the end of the day you could be at your absolute peak and still not make the medals, let alone gold.

Matt - you are completely correct.

Unknown dude - you diss the delicious Victoria once more and I'm coming round to blow your house up. Then I'll post pics of your mum's norks on here. Yeah, mo'fo.

As above, she's playing the game - she gets paid bugger all at the mo', so cash in while you can.

Is Yossie Poncing off the Mrs again!!!

It must cost her a fortune to keep him in High Resolution stalking equipment and night goggles.

I hope she has every success both sporting and commercial at the Olympics or she' ll end up back at Cleat's with only her eccles cakes for comfort.

    Some interesting facts there.
She wears her heart on her sleeve
She responds to positive support not negative criticism
She keeps Dobermans to keep Yossie off.Useful stuff.

A thoroughly intriguing insight into the life of Vicky P. What came across more than anything is that she appeared to be very fragile emotionally.

I hope Anna Mears wasn't watching this. Strange to broadcast your weaknesses and emotional fragility a week or so before it all kicks off.

    Maybe it's some elaborate bluff.

I wonder if they have nice, friendly showers together when they get out of their sweaty racing kit.

She comes across like she's got mental health problems. Nothing wrong with that, obviously, but I wonder how well advised the programme was.

Also, got the distinct impression we were only getting half a story regarding the expulsion of her boyfriend from the BC set up. What was all that about? For some reason the other coaches really didn't like him, did they?

Good luck Victoria, I suspect you're going to need it.

She was very candid in the programme. I reckon being at the top of your game for so long and the pressures you put on and have put upon yourself are enormous. I think she is excellent, an advocate of our sport and an excellent role model as compared to Heat and Closer fodder.(Cheryl Cole, etc)

    That is all. :D

She came across as extremely honest and very feminine and all that entails ie emotional, contradictory, insecure. The attitude of BC to her relationship was also a bit bizarre - she and Scott were accused of being unprofessional but the reaction of the coaches seemed even worse, maybe they were just jealous?

I liked the way she came across, anyway, just a shame we didn't see her naked photoshoots :)

A surprisingly insightful program. It just goes to show the pressures top athletes are under, be it from themselves, those around them, and their country.

I think Anna Meares has a lot to fear in the olympics. Victoria is on top form and has the burning desire to beat her.

The Pendleton/Meares battle will be massive as Anna Meares will be after revenge after having lost inthe WOrld's in her own back garden, what better way than to avenge herself by taking Olympic Gold in Miss P's home Olympics.

I just hope Yossie has her fired up! It will be a battle royal.

I thought exactly the opposite - it didn't really tell us anything new. VP just came accross as unstable and needy. As others have said, not the most well-advised programme. She seems to embrace the distractions (photoshoots, interviews, etc. despite moaning about them). Could this be the BBC grooming VP for her post-Olympics media career?

She also didn't strike me as someone focused on winning. The comments about going out on a high sounded rehearsed and generic, and she's alreadying thinking about what she'll be doing after the Olympics. Would Hoy (for example) say such things? Would Hoy even make such a programme? Perhaps more relevant, would Meares?

On the whole, I don't think the programme did her any favours at all.

As an aside, how many solo world records does she hold?

What an eye opener the programe was. I defo think she has 'issues' but I do respect the candid and brutally honest account of VP's career (allbeit an abbreviated one). I also felt as if VP doesn't actually enjoy what she does, at all.

One thing that did aggitate me throughout was her Father. I don't think I heard the words "I'm so proud" in the whole 60 mins. It was all about her living out his cycling dreams. The part were they showed the WC jersey from 2005 framed in the hallway - no sign of "this is my most treasured posession", 'I'm so proud' etc. No it was words to the effect of "I wonder what if I could of won this", "what if I done better?". I'm all for nurturing children and sometimes being 'harsh' to teach a lesson or instill principles and values but this guy just seemed very bitter that it wasn't him that won an Olympic medal or the WC bands. IMO - the source of all her angst and instability stems from him. He's no doubt been the foundation for one of the most successful cyclists of our time but FFS get over yourself.

Any "I'm so proud" guff is sentimental tosh for the viewers. I preferred Andy Murray's reply when asked how tough it was for his parents to watch him, which was that it was a lot tougher for him.
  • I loved the bit when she collapsed in Dave Brailsford's arms, after her last worlds.

He drops her to the floor, walks off, and calls for Steve Peters.

    Classic piece of delegation.
