Is that it? No more stages?

Two more mate. Going to the start tomorrow, then mountain top again on Tuesday. I just meant that I was happy as I am such a Big George groupie ;)

    Nice one! Enjoy!

The bear maniacs usually make their point by killing bears and dumping them outside public buildings though.

Also, what's the point of a protest if you don't tell anyone it was you?

Where would bears get carpet tacks?

    Youre quite a sharp one.

Anyway isnt this potentially a anti bear protest?

Just watching the highlights. Tejay was ahead of Cadel over the summit of the mur. He looked around at the time but you can't go back up the course...

That'll by why Wiggins wanted to slow it down then.

    Slow puncture innit.
Wiggins did not puncture he was unhappy with his bike and was going to change it at the top of climb but npo cars there.
If you look at how fast he was going next to team car was obvious it was not a puncture, he changed the bike not just a wheel also.

Did I hear correctly while watching it that someone slaped BW on his back while climbing the final hill?

Yes this is correct, although it wasn't a slap as such, it was more like someone seeing Wiggins - actually it was two people I think - and then patted him like you would saying 'go on mate'. He then shook his head as if to say 'honestly, this country'.
  • I reckon it could easily have been the anti-bear protesters responsible. I lived for 6 years just down the road, some of the things these protesters get up to is amazing, but huge amounts of threatening behaviour.
Just because the tacks didn't have the protesters web site on doesn't mean it wasn't them. There could have been all sorts of threats made in advance and when the bear reintroduction programme isn't stopped they go ahead with the "action" but in a way that the perpatrator can escape conviction (possibly).
There was an awful lot of fresh paint on the roads today and most of it saidn "No to the Bears", but in French obviously

The only reason Wiggo can play the patron and be all Lance-like and magnanimous is the 2:45 advantage.

If all he was was 10 seconds on Evans, I guarantee you it would have been different.

    St Bradley? Hardly...

Think only certain scenarios allow the race to be slowed. If they were racing before the pnture. I don't think they would stop. But it was more of a GC call to slow it as they all seemed aware that no attack would work o far from the line. So seemed no drama to let Evans get back.

If it happened with 20km on a sprint stage.... would not be the case.
Halfway up a mountain stop finish... would not be the case.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but in terms of the race the opportunity to neutralise a stage works in favour of the guy that has the lead. So in today;s example it's win win for Sky, Brad can look the decent guy doing the honourable thing, and another day gets chalked up in yellow.

That would be my guess too. And maybe it wasn't just BW, maybe the team car too.
All in all I think it worked out for the best. Just one of those days.
What's the bear thing about? :?

This has got to be one of the easiest Tours in history. What a joke route.

Give me the Giro and bring on the Vuelta.

100% agree Frenchie - One of the dullest tours in history..Climbs 60-70kms from the finish. Downhill finishes. endless TT's ....Prudhomme trying to kill the tour as a spectacle and doing it very good. ONE day in the alps FFs !!! hopefully the vuelta will be better than this boring farce. Should have just called it the TDF Sportive this year a total joke course.

That must have been taken before Rolland did a runner, as he seems to be leading the yellow jersey group in one of the shots.

interesting that the comments from Le Tour say this was tacks before the top of the climb but we saw loads of people puncture on the descent.

Whoever it was should have to go to prison for this. I know Kiserlovski is out now, how badly was he injured ?

Agree about the route, they bigged up the climb and then in the end no one did anything when we came to the steep bit that everyone seemed to cope with ok.

Just Weds and I think Friday for big stages then the TT on Sat. Will Wiggo get a road stage win I wonder

3 weeks of bike racing?? A farce to whom. I'm betting the racers aren't getting together and saying things like "what a joke", "easy as pie route", "nothing to this TDF thing", "what a waste of time", "I'm not even getting in good workouts". In any case if it's that bad I challenge you to NOT watch.

All I can say is don't watch. And if Frank thinks it's boring why doesn't he jazz it up a bit? Would being in yellow be too boring for him?

Keep in mind an embedded tack will not necessarily blow up the tire immediately. Often the tack will actually almost seal the hole and only later or when the tire deforms on a turn will it start leaking or go completely.

+1 mate and whats more despite being relatively mundane none of the big names are going for it. Last years race seemed way more exciting all round.

What for example is Tommy V upto, he never left the back of the peloton yesterday, just out for a ride in the countryside. I don't get it.

By the way, reading all the papers this morning, I see no reported reaction or thanks from BMC or Cadel personally.

Too much to ask of an Ozzie?
