Yeah I see - I'm strictly on a "one MTB policy" so need to try and cut it down the middle.

All comes down to price vs spec for the 2013 models, hurry up Canyon!
  • Should be in by end of September according to them.

Bought a new Avid Lever for my Elixir 7s because I didn't like the levers they come with. £20.99 just for the blade and the rubber stoppers it comes with. Ouch. Decided to swap the front brake only because that's the one I use 90% of the time.

Found Fisher Outdoor (Avid/SRAM distributor) very helpful when trying to source the replacement. Makes it easier to get the replacement part from the LBS if you know the Fisher part number.

CRC sell the levers for £14, but the correct matching one isn't in yet. Canyon also pointed me in the direction of a Magura spares supplier too. It is OK at the moment but just feels a bit different to the front one; I'll hold on until I need to do it (or maybe I'll buy some XT brakes...)

What I did at half term (I had the week off to spend some time with my little girl, she ended up going on holiday with her grandparents so I had most of the week free):

    Monday - local route.
Lee Quarry is way off in the background just over the hill.

Tuesday - Lee and Cragg, foggy, rainy.

Can't really get the hang of the pump tracks, maybe a FS isn't the best (or more likely it is just me).
    8148074798_4b9c3f7213_z.jpg

Thursday - Whinlatter. Snow, hail, rain, sleet, more rain, soaking feet.

    8145404803_4e37d72dfb_z.jpg

Friday - Lee and Cragg again, much clearer (tried taking the same angle at Cragg again to demonstrate) but really windy (I wouldn't fancy being the bloke in the Nacelle of the wind turbine in the background).

That colour is enough reason to buy a Canyon, whether you want/ need one, or not... Stunning

Skills course with Ed Oxley today at Hurstwood (Ed's photo), and a really nice bunch of people.

    8249400591_1897bd20a0_z.jpg

The course was only half a day, but was really helpful and Ed is a really good teacher.

I also got to have a go on Ed's Fatbike, which was brilliant fun. I have no need for one, but I want one.

I've not been out for a few weeks for various reasons, mainly because I've been concentrating on weights for while through winter and work has been getting in the way. Fitness felt good today, as I didn't feel the need to take any photos whilst I was out riding.

    8482046882_79106ed70f_z.jpg

I had a quick blast on my local trails this morning, and everything felt good, other than shifting up on the front, which has resulted in dropping of the chain. I've gone from the 24/32 XT rings that were on originally to 24/36 Middleburn. I cannot get the front mech to shift up to the big ring at the moment; on a positive note it means I'm riding more in the 36t which must be improving my fitness! I'm going to have another play about with the limit screws in the week.

    8480956407_3c793a7ffd_c.jpg

I'm going to head up to Hurstwood next weekend I think, and just keep lapping it until I drop.

I know how this feels, out of my 27 gears i had 7 useable ones yesterday, the front mech wouldn't shift up or down and the rear kept skipping. I think i have it sorted now :?

I just kept it in the big ring for the majority of the ride; I only used the granny for one hill.

I've not changed anything, but I took some pics at Gisburn today.

Top of the Hope Line climb. Still fairly presentable.

    8614257032_55abddd31b_z.jpg

Back at the car, completely filthy.

    8614255462_9926a9a7dd_z.jpg

I'm going to reward it (me) with a dropper post when I shift a bit more weight! It'll be my prize for getting to 100kg.

New bits, Easton Havoc 750mm carbon bars.

    8686742304_f6dcca3e26.jpg

I've not put a shorter stem on yet (70mm at the moment), it feels OK on the street but I'll see what it is like next time I go out. I've got a 45mm Raceface stem that was supposed to go on the hardtail when I bother to finish building it, so I may try that, or may try the 60mm Exotic stem I have on the hardtail at the moment. I fancy some new grips as well, I don't need them, the Canyon ones are great, but I might have a change.

I also bought some £6 scales off eBay. Bars were advertised as 260g I think, so come in under that.
    8686747324_0926945cbc.jpg
    And the old ones:
    8686746474_a6446483df.jpg

Red Superstar Pads, so I'll brake faster (although the actual surface area of the pad seems slightly smaller than the original Magura ones, so I might not.
    8685626243_458835d032.jpg
    8686743312_26d79f51d0.jpg

And a photo I took at Cragg Quarry a few weeks ago, just so I could have a breather.

    More new bits:

Hans Dampfs (Pacestar/Trailstar combo) fitted last night but not tried as yet. Canyon Chain Guide bought from the classifieds, which is good if a little noisy.

    9101175401_5d196c3a99_z.jpg

Selle Italia Yutaak sample titanium railed saddle. I know I don't need a FR saddle, but it is surprisingly comfortable, I need to get rid of the sample sticker off it though (I'm thinking mud and friction will probably do it).

    9103409266_b6963cd790_z.jpg
Bit lighter than the old one.
    9101186335_68114e9997.jpg9103419276_d8582812ff.jpg

RaceFace respond 45mm stem. Works well with the Havocs.

    9101181217_7628287cda_z.jpg

Noticeably heavier than the old one, annoyingly (although I've just weighed myself this morning and lost 4kg in the last fortnight, so that 50 odd grams doesn't really matter).
    9103421430_406c696857.jpg9101192783_db3b158336.jpg

Full shock service and custom valving next on the list, then a KS Lev, hopefully.

I've took the plunge on this bike and gone 1x10 too. I've been OK with a 32t 1x10 on the Scandal but I don't think the climb from the car park at Lee or the link road to Cragg would be good on a 32t so I've got a 30t Narrow/Wide Race Face Chainring on. Zee mech, new XT cassette and KMC Chain on and everything feels good. Local blast tomorrow to make sure everything is OK then off to Lee on Sunday.

I've also had the shock tuned to my liking by Mojo, so hopefully it should give me a bit more pedal platform. I've not been off the street on it yet but it already feels better.

Looking good! Do like the colour and the kit looks really well thought out. Not too keen on that saddle though!!! Needs a dropper too ;)

I've got a black and green Spoon which I'm going to put on soon, the Yutaak is suprisingly comfortable though. I do need a dropper. KS Lev is on the list as soon as I get some funds.

Personally I'd go for a reverb, my experiences of cable dropper posts like the Joplin put me off big time!

Where'd you get the 30t raceface ring btw? can't find anywhere that have them instock :?

    mcnultycop Posts: 2,143
LBS got them back in before all the mail order places ( he got 2 in, 1 for me and one for him), but most of them seemed to get them back in this week. I imagine they went out quickly though.

I wouldn't want a Joplin. I like the fact there aren't loops of hose in the Lev when you drop the saddle.

Happy to report the 30t is enough to get me round Lee and Cragg Quarry, I wasn't needing a lower gear at all, plus the chain didn't even think about falling off.

Now with added Lev and Spoon.

Lev seems to go down easily if I'm off the bike, but with more difficulty when I try to push down with my backside whilst sat on the bike. Hopefully this should just settle down a bit with use.

Sorry to be a pain, but how have you routed the dropper hose on your AM? I have little rubber grommits on my frame whichI guess has something to do with the routing but not sure how? Could you post some pics?

    Cheers, russ

Canyon sell clips to replace the rubber grommets, I think they were about £3 each (so 2 of them) plus a ridiculous tenner posted. If you need a pic I'll take one, but I just replaced the grommets with the clips. I've got the barrel adjuster fitted between the two clips.
