In last weeks CWeekly, their fitness section included a review of a recent study of training methods.
To summarize:
2 groups of trained cyclists.
4 weeks duration.
First group called traditional : 2 sessions of hi intensity per week/sessions of longer endurance rides
Second group called block: 1st week crammed with 5 hi intensity sessions/sessions of longer endurance rides/following 3 weeks 1 hi intenisty.
Both groups same volume at the end.
Block group apparently 'improved' over the trad group.
To me that sounds like better periodization and results gained by getting the body to respond out of a bit of a rut, perhaps?
Might try it myself.
Just curious if similar method employed by others?

Insufficient information to be able to assess.
Same volume does not mean same workload. Workload is a function of volume and intensity.
How did they measure workload and improvement?0 -
