Hills are one thing , but he's still very bad on mountains. Yesterday was interesting in that with one cat 1 climb to go, and an 80 or so man peloton still together, Liquigas went to the front to set a tempo so that Sagan could hang in for the stage win, but as soon as Lotto went to the front and pushed the pace up Sagan very quickly went out the back door.
Of course it's worth remembering that he's still only 22, and could yet grow in any number of ways, but as of now he hasn't shown anything to suggest there is a great climber or TTer in there.0 -
They were working for Nibali not Sagan!Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

If they were working for Nibali they would have ridden harder. They got to the front and the gap went nowhere. Lotto got to the front and the gap tumbled immediately.
Either way the point remains that he went out the back as soon as the pace went up.0 -

I was pretty amazed by Sagan staying with Casar, LLS and co over the top of the last climb yesterday. I can see a scenario where, like Kelly, he is competitive in Grand Tours as well as being the favourite for the Green Jersey. He'll need to improve his TT in particular (and making it over a couple of 1st category climbs does not make him a 'climber'!) but does anyone want to bet that he cant improve these things as he gets older?!0 -
Sagan is clearly a massive talent, but talk of GC winning potential is just hyperbole at this point in time.
OK, so he got over the climbs yesterday, along with some guys who are decent climbers, but not climbing specialists by any means. Nobody in that break was a threat on GC so the pace of the stage as a whole was pretty tame, lets not forget that Cav was at the front of the peloton up the first Cat 1 climb and halfway up the second.
There seems to be an obsession with painting every new star as a potential grand tour winner, he's a very exciting rider who can win sprints, uphill sprints, from breakaways and in the next few years will probably win some big one dayers, lets enjoy that for now and not put too much pressure on him. At the moment he should concentrate on being a Bettini/Gilbert type rider, if in five years he decides to go on the Wiggins weight loss plan and learns to ride long TTs then we'll revisit the idea."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -

Spoilsport!! Sagan's performance across the year invites speculation and every time I personally think he wont do something he does. Clearly he has the look of a Classics rider more than a GC rider but I think the Kelly parallel is apt.0 -

No chance of him doing the ToB really is there? .. I know Basso is signed up for it, but love to see that over the top of Gun Hill.0 -

Immense talent ...
All the riders are dirty and if you believe otherwise then I won't ruin Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Lochness Monster for you.
Hard to say if he can be a GC winner at this point. I doesn't look like it but at 22 it would be foolish to write him off.
TJVG looks to be the best promise for the future given his TT ability and climbing ability. Pinot looks like a future multiple KoM winner.
Problem is that I don't see Pinot or Rolland having the TTing chops to win the TDF so they'll need to imrpvoe to get respectable.0 -
[Sagan] needs to be put in the Wiggins diet
