What BMX?

You didn't miss much, that was pretty poor. I keep forgetting the place was taken over last year.
They had 4 BMXs in, and knew nothing about any of them.
The assistant pointed me to a Haro that had been reduced from £325 to £275, but couldn't really tell me much about it. he started off by telling me it was a good spec because of the 3 piece cranks (ok), the fact it has a gyro (errrm), F&R u-brakes (errrm), and mostly because it was an alu frame instead of a steel. (eh?).
When I asked him about sizes, he told me they only make 1 size of BMX, and the only difference is the rise in the bars.
Needless to say, I'll not be buying mine from there.
Might go try the other shop after work. I generally avoid them because they're roadies and come over VERY snobby when you talk to them. They do seem to have a good selection in though, and the dude with the tats and the nose-bar that used to work at the other shop now works there and I know for a fact he races BMX.0 -
Despite the flak they get Winstanleys are not too shabby for bmx. Have bought quite a few things from them over the years and they've helped me out many times with 'will it fit' questions0

That is a pretty good idea tbf. I've got my eye on a new camera too, so it's between the 2.0 -
Im the same, bmx are really a lot of fun but would you ride it? I can take the dj down the skatepark and although you can really really learn stuff fast on a bmx, would you use it, saying that im still thinking of getting one!!
As .blitz says winstanleys are quite good for bmx.
And CWNT you will need a bmx to try the new camera out on.0 -
I don't have a DJ bike to mess about on though, I've basically just got a 160mm all mountain monster.
Might use the BMX for the 34mile round trip commute0 -

This, although my commute is only a 4mile round trip (all uphill on the way home though).0 -

Ahh, well you will really benefit from having a trick bike then be it a bmx or dj.0 -
One more.
What about this one?

hmmm, odd. Works for me. Linky instead?
This [url=http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/36517/Haro_4003_Bike_2011Haro is my other option if it's worth the extra fifty quid.
and as a long shot, they've also got an older (2005) GT Fueler for just £100.0 -
Just redirects to this:

Ah, I linked to that Haro earlier, looks good (that url works, odd!). As does the fueler, bargain!0 -
Hmmm, it's odd how the other 2 work. The one I was trying to link to is a Redline Asset Bike (2011). Just clicked it again and it takes me straight to it.0

It's a bit rusty Nick. Looks like it lived in a canal.
Any particular reason for choosing that one over any others Nick? I've seen quite a few on pinkbike, but wasn't sure about buying because I know they come in for a lot of stick in regular use.
The old skool look is all well and good, but I am buying it specifically for the local dirt BMX track, and mucking about on the street, so it's probably not going to be for me.0 -

fukit!
In the true tradition of the buying advice forum, I've run a thread up to 4 pages asking for advice, then gone and bought none of the above
A brand new redline Asset is on its way to me now.
bask in the magnificence that is, my new clown bike:

they are not bad- new pedals will be needed soon though."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Good bike that, as Nick says swap out the pedals if your tricking it, the tyres are great and pretty decent on dirt as well, the old skool bikes are pants on jumps etc they are way to twitchy.
Well then now you have got one looks like me is gonna get one......0 -
I've got some MG1s, not sure if they'll be of any use on a clown bike though, or if they even use the same fitting as "real" bikes?0

Also, damn you Matt for reigniting my want for a BMX!It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Well, it arrived this afternoon. Great service from Winstanleys (who have come in for some stick on here before, but have been amazing for me the last couple of months).
All built up now, pics in my sig (little).
First impressions are that it's really (and I DO mean really) hard to ride. I'm putting it down to the fact it's completely different to the Reed and the Karma and requires me to adapt my style to suit.
Hoping to take her out for a proper test at the weekend.
Very happy with it for under £300.0
