Morning,
I was out for a 3 1/2 hr ride at 5:15 this morning -is this normal?

With a big event on the horizon and a busy work life and home life ( 3 kids aged 3-14 ) there never seems to be enough time for as much training as i would like. Great as i was home by 8:45 but i suspect i may be a little sleepy later
What time are people prepared to be up to get the hours in ??

cheers bob

Hey Bob. I have a 1year old daughter so I'm quite often out on the bike between 5 and 6am so I can spend the rest of the day with the family. Yeah I fade a bit mid afternoon but after a bit of food I bounce right back. Basically ride when you can is my advice.

Hello bob. I have a 2 year old son and feel like i dont have enough time to get any cycling in. since i started cycling seriously i been getting up at 5am and out the door within 15-20 minutes on a saturday and usually a lie in on a sunday. nice and quiet on the roads to get a serious amount of cyling in. i also commute to work on my bike to get the exercise in as well.

Just remember, you don't get faster during training, you get faster during recovery. Be sure to get enough sleep!

Yep, same for me - young family= early rise for a bit of training before kids need to get up and ready for school. If weather is nice, i'll head out, if not it's a turbo session in conservatory.

I go out early at the weekend too, sure it can be hard to get out of bed - but I much prefer being out early as traffic is really quiet plus its good to have rest of the day with family.

I have ridden back from work at 5pm, getting back after 10pm.
    It's 120km. Yeah I know that's not terribly rapid :D
Because I am into audax riding I use my best bike and it has lights and a place to stash a coat

I have occasionally got out of bed at 4:45am to make it to an event that starts at 6am but I've never done training then

If it was a really nice day I would imagine that it would be nice to get out at 5am in the summer. I've done rides that go all night before and that time of day in the summer is super.
