and this is true of a lot of trades. The thing is though when someone has a accident on a bike you have serviced, repaired or whatever, inevitably someone sooner or later will want someone to blame. Your insurance company will want to know what qualifications you have or to what standard you have been tested and sadly, nowadays, 25 years experience counts for sod all.

Not quite Bolllocks.......Its great having qualifications BUT you then got to prove currency (not money!!) Its no good having a qualification if you have serviced a bike in ten years!!!! Sometimes currency counts more that qualifications.0

The thing is, some qualifications aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
Just looking over the course outline posted, there are two days dedicated to wheel building. In my opinion this is no where near enough time to really learn how to do it properly; the same can be said for many of the more difficult jobs.
These skills come with time, practice and learning from mistakes. Don't get me wrong you need to be taught well in the first place, but why should it matter if that's on a course or just by some old chap who's been doing it for years? What We Achieve In Life, Echoes In Eternity0 -
A friend of mine was struggling for work but managed to get a job in a LBS. I think he got the job based on his experience rather than qualifications but the pay wasn't good and he didn't like it there.
He set up on his own as a mobile mechanic and had some really good ideas but he struggled to make it work, there wasn't enough demand.0
