Done over 2000 miles on my road bike since i've had it,
Have Started training this year doing about 60 miles a week, for the last two months when the weather been good.
It started when i went out with local cycle club for the first time this year just over two weeks ago.

it was really hard for me riding with them at there pace, and since then i've had a pain behind my right knee only when out on the bike? after about 10 miles today it got really bad after 14 mile had to come home. but it doesnt give me any pain at work or walking about.

Any ideas

Thanks

Seat height and position. Sounds like your knee is overextending.

    If in doubt,bike fit.

If you're pushing really hard for extended periods of time you could have some tendon inflammation. It'll feel like an ache or tightness, you might even be able to feel the tendons sticking while moving through its sheath.

If you're reasonably fit and quite strong, but you haven't been used to such exertion then it could be that. I've had the same thing. I'm pretty strong from weight training and can push myself well into the red to keep up with a faster rider, but my tendons haven't had to adapt to that power for such a prolonged duration. (I've only really got 2 summer of riding twice a week behind me, but am now up to 80-100 miles a week). I'm prone to inflammation anyway as well.

To find out if this is what it could be, treat with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen at the suggested dose for a week (i think its 200mg every 4hrs, but check that or you'll kill your liver). You could also try ice after training.

Tendons take a long time to heal, so if it's this, i'd train through it at a level at which you can complete your training sessions and rides without having it get too 'tight', by going at your own pace or intensity level. Stopping riding ist going to help your fitness level or the tendons performance level, so just manage the injury sensibly and you should be ok. If it gets worse, see your doctor.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!
