EKE - you need to change the thread title.

    'Cos "chaos", it aint.
I was thinking about this the other day.
I can't comment on PT('cos I haven't used it during the games) but the roads have been fine, both for cycling and for driving. It seems that whenever I'm driving on a road with a games lane, dot matrix signs say all traffic can use it. I've not driven into central London before 2300 but around Dalston, Whitechapel, Hackney and Islington all seem quieter than usual.
Thread title about to be changed.

    Consider my words eaten.

Driving into London on Saturday along the M4 I hit a queue just before the M25 junction and thought "Oh no, here we go, crawling congestion from here on".

And crawl we did, painfully slowly until past that junction when the roads became about the clearest I've ever seen.

Only possible explanation is massive jam caused by folks trying to avoid the massive jams in London, that weren't there. :-D

I drove right past the Olympic stadium down the A12 about 20 minutes after the men's 100m final and the traffic was as light as you like. I think we can safely say the chaos isn't going to happen now.

Speaking of Tower Bridge I was surprised on my return to blighty this morning to find they have the bike lane blocked heading south at the lights at the old Royal Mint. WTF??? I have no idea what that is supposed to achieve other than put cyclists in the line of fire.

Can anyone advise - travelling east from the Tower of London, can you still cycle down East Smithfield and onto The Highway or is that just Olympic lanes now? Not been that way still the Games started and wanted to be sure it was still open.

    Thanks.

From Tower Hill to the Highway both lanes are Olympic lanes, you should turn left at the tower and go all the way round one way system then turn left on to the Highway, note police were standing there eat bound on Thursday evening. The Highway itself, inside lane is fine but only wide enough for a car, outside lane is Olympic Lane and wdie enough fora big bus and a bike! Suggest if you want to stay legal riding a strong primary down the inside lane.

I've been using this lane most of last week and this week, there is no way I'm going around that one way system for the sake of 150 yards. Haven't had a peep out of nay of the traffic cops on motorbikes so as long as you stay to the left in the bike lane (nothing to say it's suspended) then you're fine.

I avoided the travel chaos by using the Tube this morning.

Central Line. Right through Stratford. Nae bother.
