    8" with 5" girth

Sure I've been faster but for a verified section there's this one on Strava http://app.strava.com/rides/8125544#148910962 (second overall). Not really impressive doing 30+ mph though, there are people out there who average that on 50 mile time trials. Whatever you have done someone else will have done better.

Well if you are going to Willy Wave ...

Last Thursdays Training ride got up to 34mph on the dead flat and a number of us held between 32-34mph for a few miles, but it nigh on nearly killed me.

Best downhill is 49.8 coming down Cannock Chase, didn't quite make 50

Many years ago when I was a fit 18yr old and I went everywhere on my bike, we didn't have such things as speedos (even swimmers didn't, they wore "trunks" ).

But one day on my way to school, I'd just pulled out of the top of the avenue when one of my 6th form mates came up on his motorbike, braked to level with me and shouted "how fast can you go?". So I showed him.

I only had about 200yds before the long incline of the M1 bridge, and I managed to get about a half of the way up with him beside me before I had to give in and at that point it was just under 35mph for a few yards. The incline strangely helped, as it felt like I had something to 'push' against.

I never did anything like it then or since, I got to school wet through with sweat and knackered for the day. You can (and will no doubt) shout bullshit as loud as you like but I was there, you weren't.

The older I get, the better I was.

Strava records my best descent speed at 44.8 mph, had it around there a couple of times. Not sure about a flat section though, I'll come back to you :D

30.something on the way home today from WBR to PG. Traffic got in the way, annoyingly. And I was absolutely turbo-ed last night, so im blaming that

    √(-1) mph.

Maybe not. I think I imagined it.

I can't believe I've written such a naff, nerdy joke.
