looks like a tick bite to me, I've had a few over the years, mind as I've got older, found the old midge and mossie bites come up like mad welts these days. Fucidin cream or ointment is the cure, sorts that nastiness out tout suite, if I have a bite now I just stick that stuff on 3 times a day for a few days and problem solved.
It is written in The Bible, wasps were born from Satan's butthole and must be cleansed with fire, firearms, or vacuum cleaners.

I am the same look like I have bubonic plague when I have been bitten. I also take a Piriton tablet before I ride these days and drown myself in Avon skin so soft, particulary if I am riding in North Wales. Snowdonian midges arent taking any prisoners these days, the little bastards could teach the tartan midges a thing or two.

You smell a bit weird and people look at you funny while your slapping it on in the car park but the Royal Marines use it on excercise so its sufficently macho for me

Not 100% sure, doctor said infections from bacteria that normally live on your skin. All I know is I take off my liner shorts as soon as I finish (ie don't drive home in them) and I've not had them since.

I disagree, tick bites don't quite fester like that, being a resident of Africa for a few decades and doing few years in the army as a medic, I've not seen tick bites look anything like that. I had a record 7 ticks on my neck after a night under the stars in Southern Angola..
It does look like some form of parasitic insect bite though, or a very bad reaction to a bite of some form..

Provides a nice environment for the bacteria, good temperature, generally quite sweaty... but generally they'll need a bite, or cut to get or where clothes have been chafing. That said normally infections from these bacteria aren't much to worry about really. Will usually clear themselves up nicely enough assuming they're just in the skin. Fusidic acid (fucidn cream) works well against them but it's not really necessary at the end of the day.

The OPs thing looks manky though, good luck with it.

Also, yeah, I'm with Raymondavalon, doesn't look much like a tick has caused that, but my opinion's worth a bag of dolly mix.

It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.
