Cornering, Turning, and Gravity

Greetings once again BikeRadar!
I seek enlightenment about this subject.
I've been riding for about 1,300 miles in 5 months now - not hardly a beginner anymore. But when I execute turns, I still feel like a beginner.
What's a great way to execute a turn (left or right) and not lose that much speed? I have a hard time trusting myself to corner effectively at a reasonable angle - and not fall off the saddle.
All help and advice is appreciated! Thanks.

I have a plan:
1. Traverse a corner
2. Did you fall off? Yes goto 3 / No goto 4
3. Make mental note to go slower next time. Goto 1
4. Do you think you could have gone a bit faster? Yes goto 5 / No goto 6
5. MTFU and make mental note to go faster next time. Goto 1
6. Good job! Goto 10 -
although the topic is "descend like a pro", this is largely about cornering...

...it has bags of good advice
you also need to be aware of road conditions, i'm on hols in lanzarote doing a lot of cycling, there are some corners i'll take at 50-60kph, there are others that i know will have the local volcanic 'gravel' all over them, these i go much much slower for!my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -

+1 for this. It's very good, and just going through the drill for every corner.
I also found going round in circles in the park and figures of eight really good for the sense of balance and to practice doing the 'lean in cornering' as opposed to turning the headset. For these I looked at the centre of the corner or circle I was going in, not infront of the bike. It really helps with building confidence and having the certainty that the bike will go in the direction you look, not where the headset is pointing.
