Ive a bit of riding earlier this year in an attempt to get in some base level training (probably not enough albeit), but i hit a pothole and dislocated my shoulder and so for a while ive been out of action.

I was planning on racing this season and training roughly inline with the cyclists training bible.

Now ive been off the bike for a while, should i go back to base training again? or would it be ok to progress to build?
the reason i ask is if i went back to base for 12 weeks it would be very late in the season before i started to get into build? (if you follow me)

Any advice on what i should do?

Thanks in advance

C.

What racing are you planning to do? Have you done these races before?

Personally I'd enter a race and see how you do, then focus on where you feel you are missing fitness/strength etc.

The Cyclist Training Bible is a good book, but there are a lot of variations between different types of racing, TTing is steady state boring agony, crits are lots of short bursts of thigh-burning agony, with lots of rests between. Your race-specific training needs to reflect this.

Thanks giant mike, i am planning on doing a few MTB XC races this season and some weekday evening crits.

No i havent raced before, this year was going to be my baptism of fire. I'll have a go and see how i do and plan from there.

Any specific turbo workouts that would help with these types of racing? Im going to use trainerroad and sufferfest stuff i think.

    Thanks
