Another question regarding aches and pains

Hi,
I've got an pain/ache/tenderness in the bottom of my left ham that's aggravated by cycling but doesn't seem to be getting worse. the more effort I put my leg through, the quicker the pain comes back during the ride - but it doesn't seem to get progressively worse.
Sorry - I'm going to start off rambling about the last couple of weeks.
I'm trying to get some distances in to prepare for a couple of 100 milers. I'm not really following a prescribed training plan, but it basically follows two midweek 90 minute sessions with a group doing city circuits including a few hills and sprints - and also and increasing longer solo weekend runout for endurance at about 15mph average (which I'm up to about 70-80 miles at the moment). Three weeks until the first sportive.
About three weeks ago on the long weekend run, I started getting a pain in the back of my thigh just above the knee (Assuming the bottom of the ham). Nothing too painful and could ride through it - but it started feeling stiff. As I was half way out when this started, I had to ride back with it getting progressively worse (but still nothing too painful). The pain was right at the back of the knee, about an inch up from the knee joint itself, between the two - what I would call - tendons. More of an ache and stiffness rather than feeling like a tear.
I decided to leave off exercise for a week - and I couldn't feel it after a day's rest. So I went out for a 90 minute ride a week later and I started feeling the ham again. I nursed it back concentrating on the other leg and it felt no worse (though I did start getting a cramp on the top of the calf of the injured leg - which I put down to compensating for the injury).
Rested for another week - but same thing happened. Couldn't feel it after a day, went out, felt fine so stayed out and it started hurting later on in the ride - this time, about 50 miles in. Dumb or not, on the stretch home, I didn't try to concentrate the effort with my other leg and the pain got no worse.
So I'm feeling that it's just something I have to put up with and I can ride with it reasonably OK for the next few weeks if I take it easy - and give my leg a good reset later on. Or am I being too blinkered about missing the rides and doing more damage?
