Knee Pain

Help! a couple of weeks ago after about three rides i noticed pain in the top of my left knee about halfway round. As i continued home it got increasingly worse and by the time i got back it was quite bad walking up stairs etc. Then after resting it one week and only doing running (no pain there) i tried again this Saturday just gone and i had to come home after 10 miles because of the pain on the outside of my left knee. Before this i had never had any problems here apart from in my right knee when i first came to clipless pedals but once i had them straight neither have hurt since about august. So my question is why could this have come on? could it be improper cleat or bike set up and why would it only happen now when i have had the bike for over a year?
Another thing is i have a road race in two weeks (20th may) and don't want to have to pull out or perform badly due to something like this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks
Harry

Pain outside of the knee is suggestive of Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). Go to the doctor.0

If no other changes and still a mystery , I can only point the finger of suspicion at your running.0
