Where did Thomas finish in the end? Presumably high enough to pick some points seeing as he led Cav out and there was carnage behind - so maybe he'll pick up the points jersey?

    Finished 10th.

Totally! Dozed off at about 40km to go.

Fortunately woke up at about 10km to see the big excitment of Phinney having his crash/mechanical and the final corner crash.

Benefits of working nights = wake up, watch last 10km of sprint stage with a coffee before getting on turbo.

Class stuff by GT. Cool and calm.

Today's win puts Cavendish in the top ten all-time Grand Tour stage winners.

Not sure about Robbie hunter as a lead out man.

He did great work getting his shoulder in earlier but watching the overhead he is all over the place when he is at top clip - must be a real pain for a sprinter to follow.

He'll probably be on twitter later too moaning about his sprinter....not the best leadout guy imho.

I quite fancied Goss for the stage too.....not that often that Cav gets off to a winning start in a GT.

Must be great for Cav's confidence & bad for the rest of the sprinters'! Gap opens, out he pops & accelerates away.

    What a woeful stage.

That's what you get when you prostitute your race to the land of beige billiard table parcour.
    Awful, awful stage.
    Guardini about 2mins back...fail.
He was the "Third Man" into the barriers, right behind the Bos bollard.
Hope he wasn't hurt, like poor Mr Kristoff.

Highlight of the stage was watching Tyler nudge and barge everybody in the last 5km trying to get a good position, before the riders finally had enough of the little whiner and somebody from Sky practically barged him accross the road...

Only first three get a time bonus, 1st 2nd and 3rd get 20", 12" and 8" respectively. Not sure about points, atm Cav is just ahead of GT.

Cavendish has got the points jersey. There were more points for winning today than there were yesterday (28 v 25). Thomas has 26 points (20+6).

Cav's jersey looks a mess with the all the stripes and logos. Is the orange a sponsor colour?

I think Guardini had (unfortunately) already lost it by then though. Shortly beforehand, where the road was narrow, Pozzato and he were being squeezed out/separated and their other team members, although close behind, didn't seem able to join up with them.

Is Guardini's team part-British? What does the GBR stand for in the team name "Farnese Vini-GBR"? The contact email address is Croft Sport (based in Swindon and Finchley)! Maybe Brits don't have to only support only Sky!

Eitherway, could it be FDJ who challenge Cavendish more just now; Soupe (3rd today) isn't even their real sprinter, Bonnet (9th today) is, and Bonnet can be good on occasion.

Yeah, they're a British registered team, but only really for tax reasons. Similarly Colnago are officially Irish.

Just put Eurosport on to watch the highlights - delayed until 10.50 then it just disappears from the schedule. B#gger!

Oh it's back 11.10 followed by 4 days Dunkirk at 11.15

Very disappointed ITV4 didn't put a highlights programme together on a shoestring (a la Vuelta). Was the Vuelta coverage just cos Wiggins was riding? I was hoping cycling had turned a corner, but it appears not.

Itv highlights are at least reliable in their programming slots!

Are there time bonuses on all stages through the tour, or they just flat day specials?

ITV4 show IPL cricket throughout most of May, so they can't show the Giro live.

(I know there's ITV2 and 3 as well - but they're run separately with their own budgets)

    Vuelta = ASO related.

Giro != ASO related therefore not on ITV.

All as above (I think) apart from these mountain stages -

    Stage 14: Cherasco to Cervinia
Stage 15: Busto Arsizio to Lecco/Piani dei Resinelli
Stage 17: Falzes to Cortina d’Ampezzo
Stage 19: Treviso to Alpe di Pampeago
Stage 20: Caldes to Passo dello Stelvio

6, 4 and 2 sec time bonuses are also available for intermediate sprints.

Cav has definitely lost a bit of weight since we saw him at MSR, either that or they've bought him a WC jersey in a bigger size.

Crap stage, but we all knew the parcours, what was anyone expecting?
