Do I need the tool to get the battery cover off my Powertap?

Don't have the tool to remove the plastic casing on my pro + PT. Never changed the battery before but it's not reading anymore and reckon it needs a battery change. Been using it for 6 months now. Can it be loosened by hand or ant regular tool?

It can be done by hand-if it's not too tight. Put a rag/tea towel over it and try a big spanner or wrench....and be very careful.

It's far too tight. Know someone locally who has the tool. Will just wait to get it.
Anyone know what battery the pro + takes an I'll go get one?

From the manual: "Use #357/303 or EPX76 Silver Oxide (IEC-SR44) type batteries and always replace batteries in pairs.".

I remove mine with a bit of old inner tube to give a bit more purchase. And as for the batteries - get good quality ones (e.g. Energiser) and not crappy Boots own brand batteries.

I did find some Duracell branded batteries in my local Tesco when mine suddenly went - they have lasted very well, and then I bought some much cheaper on ebay for the 2nd replacement.

You really dont want to break the cover on the PT hub so personally I'd either try and find an LBS that sells PT stuff or just wait a few days and order one online. Its frustrating to wait and very annoying that you dont get the tool with the hub, but people should simply order one when they buy the hubs. Saves a lot of hassles.

...and now you've cursed me too, as I started getting dropouts on my PT tonight, so the battery is on the blink again :(

Changed mine a few weeks ago. Had a hell of a job getting the cover off and that was with the correct tool! First time it had ever been off I think. Almost gave up as I thought I was going to round off the plastic, but use of the tool and a teatowel to spread the downward force eventually worked. Its a rubbish design though :(

I currently have an issue with mine - Paligap are kindly sending a battery holder FOC to see if its that that has gone.

When I was on the phone to them yesterday, they recommended also using this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/contralube-770- ... ant-346030

So if you are going to Maplin, maybe get a tube. He said since he's started using it, he's had no complaints/returns etc from corrosion.

In case it helps anyone...I use one of these to get Powertap caps on and off. There is no chance of rounding using one, which is bonus.
