Nice looking piece of kit that - can you post up the full spec?

Out of interest how does it ride compared to your old Spicy? I looked at getting a Strive but in the end went for a Spicy as there was one in stock that I could test ride.

Yup, planetary gears! It's a Hammerschmidt. It's brilliant, a little draggy in the simulated 38t ring but changes instantly even when stopped or back peddling! Loads of ground clearance as well.

The extra bonus is there is no front mech to get clogged up with sticks and mud which then stops working!
  • That looks awesome

It's hard to compare properly as the Spicy got stolen after just 6 weeks! I managed to get about 9 rides in at Cannock and the Peaks. They seem similar really, the Canyon is lighter though but only by half a kilo or so.
The Strive is specced better considering they were almost exactly the same money though. The reverb post is brilliant.

I can't see that being a problem, I'm there a fair bit. Probably be over Stile Cop a fair bit now as I want to get into DH.

Very nice, don't see them all too often, really nice looking bikes. Bloody bargain as well, having just looked up the price on the canyon website!

Loving the pic after the dyfi as well, that place gets ridiculously muddy from what i hear off mates who've ridden the enduro!

The bike was properly caked! No issues though even though the puddles were 2 feet deep in places! The bike came into its own on the steep slatey descents. I'll get some clean photos now I've scrubbed it thoroughly!

Very very nice bike, im currently debating over this and the Commencal meta and the YT industries.

Having only had 120mm travel before and quite light bikes how does this bike suit all day trail stuff? Im getting a bit bolder/braver/more stupid lol at drops, jumps etc and think the Ghost AMR i have is just a little under suspensioned for what i want to start doing more of. However i love the AMR its just so quick and a great all rounder id be gutted if this wasnt as good at going up as well as coming down..does that make sense?

I ride mainly at Cannock, Llandegla, Coed Y Brenin and Style Cop

I bought it with the view of getting into bigger and faster stuff and toying with DH. It laps that stuff up really. It's fine on all day rides but I've not had a short travel light full suss to compare it too. It doesn't climb as well as the Lapierre Zesty I had but it's perfectly capable of long climbs. Going up Y Wall at Afan was a prime example, coped fine and I didn't get dropped by my mates but they stopped on some of the descents because they'd taken a battering!

Was out in the Peaks at the weekend as well and some of the bouldery descents were just brilliant, you can build up some serious speed and float across the top (relatively!!!).

I'd thoroughly recommend it if you are going to be doing bigger stuff that warrants it. I'm off to the Alps on it and intend on doing the Mega as well so I'm hoping it's the perfect tool!

good info that cheers. Im also off to the alps in august so was also thinking a better travel bike would allow me to do more stuff.

    Perfect then!
The Fox 36s are ideal as well. I can't see a downside unless you want to be first to the top of the climbs?

True, Whats the gear set up on the 9? Think ill get the 7 and see if they will add the crank brothers wheels and ill pay the extra ££ which should still be cheaper than the 9 but more than enough bike for my needs

It's a 2 x 10 SRAM X0 setup with a Hammerschmidt crank so there is only one ring. Canyon stick a 11-36 cassette on as well so there is plenty of range for climbing.

Click the buy button - they aren't off the shelf but mine did turn up a lot sooner than expected which was a bonus!
Post some pictures when it arrives as well!

So if its 2 x 10 but only has one ring how does that work? Sorry for all the questions but ill be selling two perfectly good bikes to bike an unknown which has to cover a lot of bases. I can afford the 9.0 just confused by the gearing

    cheers again

Not fully figured it out!! It uses planetary gears - basically when it's locked it works as a 24 tooth ring and when released the ring turns quicker than you pedal so it acts as a 38t. Really impressed with it, no front mech and you can change under full load, stationary or even when back pedalling. Really good bit of kit.

Cheeky question, would you let me come and see it in the flesh? Id bring i.d. or could meet you at the local fire station (im a fire fighter) so you know im not up to no good. Just the opportunity to actually see one before i ordered one would be great

    I understand if not

    Cheers

Thats a great offer cheers but ive seen a few xc's out and about. Its more a case of sitting on one for size as a few people have had issues with canyons sizing

I found the sizing ok once i got someone to help me with the measurements and double checking exactly what hte measurements they wanted were I was boarder line small/medium went with a medium and am glad I did as the fit is really good
