The most import elements in fitness development are intensity of effort and duration of effort. From a fitness POV, what bike you ride isn't of great importance, provided it fits properly. Of course you will likely notice some differences between different bikes, but that's a relatively minor adaptation issue relative to your overall cycling fitness.

Ride whatever helps you do the work needed to improve, and sufficient time on the bike to replicate what you'll ride in goal events.
  • Basically you want to get as many hours in the saddle as you can. Base fitness is important but dont just slog away mile after mile doing the same thing, mix it up with some intervals and sprint training, this will keep it interesting and work your muscles in different ways.
