Frame damage will happen, so if a chain is stronger harder than the drive train it's interacting with it will wear out those parts quicker
KMC chains just have a better design, a design that significantly reduces undue chain stretch. They all use hardened chrome coatings with Zinc / Nickel type anti rust protection. KMC don't possess some magic coating. Use a decent dry lube regularly and the effect of any chain is significantly reduced. However there is no cure for any stretched chain causing excessive wear other than changing it.
where did you read kmc chains have a better design?
what makes me laugh is a lot of folk not all on here, when comes down to how materials wear, react, interact with each other, design, serviceability have no practical knowledge in there day to day jobs of how or why metals plastics rubbers really work, wont learn this sat in a office, you may know what your doing but not many know why there doing it

Pay attention. I've already told you where I got it from. Experience and being a tight arse. I know exactly what works in the real world because I don't like throwing money away. And I'm well aware of what beardy bollocks has to say and some of it I agree with and some I don't and think's outdated.0

You really do spout a load of utter guff. You work with motor bikes, which have little in common with light weight mtbs where most things have trade offs.0
-
I keep saying, chains and their maintenance are like religion to some.
Just slap a chain on, oil it, and ride. If it breaks, power/missing-link it, if it's worn, replace it. End.0 -

+1. Except we also make Shimano chains, so stick with KMC and Shimano and save the Sram for spreading on crackers.
In fact, KMC does have a superior design thanks to 100% R&D focus on chains.0 -

Or they just make them sh1t to flog more KMC. It's a conspiracy I tell you.I don't do smileys.

its all a opinion :?:anthem x with many upgrades0

No one is disputing that. It's an opinion based on their experiences and in the case of Papa Ado - he claims to work for them so will actually know some facts.0

I too claim to know some facts.
I don't, but I claim to.I don't do smileys.

SONIIIIIIC! Shut this thing down. Turns out asking for people's opinions is pointless.0 -
no, to say one chain is better than the other is pointless, there are far to many variables starting from wear the source material came from because it does change to the kinda style a rider hasanthem x with many upgrades0

No it's not. Not just about wear, they break too. Lots of experience from many people adds up if you sift out the shite talkers, like erm, can't think who?0

Seriously, why do Shimano chains break so often? I was out riding with Cooldad and some others two weeks back, and one of the guys Shimano chain broke (fairly new 10spd). He asked why I thought it broke, my answer was 'because it has Shimano written on it', an answer I stand by. Why do you make them so feeble?A Flock of Birds

It didn't break by a join made by the rider did it?
The only time I've had Shimano chains "break" is when the pin has pulled from a plate. I guess using a chain tool to ram a pin through the plate just makes them slightly-the-wrong-shape or enlarges the hole a bit... leading to eventual failure at that point. Add missing link at broken point = chain ok again.0 -
Stretch or snap, Shimano are crap.

Gave away the last of my 9 speed links. All I ever seem to do with the spare links is give them to other people.0

cooldad wrote:Nope newish bike and chain. But if that's the fix why don't Shimano simply supply chains with missing links instead of their stupid pins.
No idea - the 'use once' pins are t*ss.
KMC or SRAM for me these days = free magic link widget.0
