Is anyone else bored of this weather?

This weather is really doing my head in now - I've not been out on the bike nearly as much as I'd like. I know its only a bit of rain but to be honest I find cycling in the rain pretty unpleasant so I don't bother because I wont enjoy it. How many people go out in these sorts of conditions? Is it just me staying in?

felt the same until I went out and bought a cheap jacket and all is well again.

Sports direct are selling off cycling jackets for £13 at the moment, probably not the best in the world but has got me back out 3-4 times a week again. Only issue i had was the liner wasnt very breathable but a long sleeve top has sorted that. Ridden for up to an hour so far (about 13-14 miles on a mtb with a couple of short 10% climbs) and not uncomfortable.

I am getting really cheesed off with the weather, it hasn't stopped raining all week, I've been out twice on the bike and got soaked both times. It was my intention to go on my first club ride this morning, when I saw the pishng rain this morning I thought, feck it and stayed in bed.

I could do with a drop more sun, but I don't mind riding in the rain as much as I did last year. Doing a couple of early season events (Sunrise Express and Mad March Hare) in dreadful conditions has instilled a bit more of the spirit of Rule 5 in me I think. :)

I'm a bit narked that the BHF Worcester ride scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed "owing to a severe weather warning", but as this includes short family rides as well as a longer stretch, I can understand the position of the organisers.

Still, look on the bright side, much more rain and the water companies won't have to invest in leak fixing and will be able to keep more of our money as nice juicy profit.

yes!! not worried about a little wind, or a little rain or little wind and rain, but the stupid amount of rain has stopped me recently.

    totally.

I started commuting for the first time in 20 years on the bike and its coincided with the rubbish weather.

Not to mention the fact that my commute is on a canal path, so I mud and dirt splattered.

Fed up but so far have kept on going.

My last 3 decent rides have been in dreadful weather and I am getting really fed up too. I don't mind the odd 'challenge' but persistant heavy rain and swirling winds are no fun at all.

I was supposed to be doing a really tempting 200k down in Somerset/Devon tomorrow but the weather warning (heavy rain all day, winds of 25mph-gusting up to 50mph) meant that I went out for a hard training ride this morning (yes, in more rain and wind  ) and will spend most of tomorrow morning in bed reading cycling mags/watching Scooby Doo and eating chocolate croissants (served with fresh ground coffee) instead of getting up at 5am and making porridge. It's not all bad :)

I might not like the weather but I just get on with it, 60 windy miles today and 50 odd wet miles on Tuesday, it'll pay off when weather picks up.

I had to drive through a right old blizzard to get home to Aviemore last night from Aberdeen. Loads and loads of fresh snow above 2000 feet, good for skiing! Luckily the sun is out today, the roads in the valley and bone dry and the hills look fantastic. Now where did I put my cold weather gear.....

  • Glad its not just me then. Seems to have dried up a bit round here - I'm going for a quick ride while I have the chance.

The Italians have a saying - "Only professionals have to ride in the rain".

It's only a hobby, if it's wet you don't have to go out - or if you are racing and need to train then there's always the turbo.

When Phil Andeson retired as a pro he ditched all his mudguards and wet weather kit - "because I'll never have to go out in the rain again".

Yep, very fed up with it. Looks like this might be the 1st w/end I've not got out for a decent ride since Christmas. Plus, my new Kask Mojito arrived from Wiggle this morning so I'm obviously very keen to try it out.

I sincerely hope that you don't ever need to try it out !

Great day in the west of Scotland today...long may these weather conditions continue
  • Always see the good in every day. The weather may be no good for riding, but it is fantastic weather for windsurfing. :D
  • Seems since the weather turned I can't even look at my bike without picking up a puncture....

Feels like it's been raining forever, even the cotswold spring classic was a wash out and that seems like ages ago now. Definately put some weight on lately with all the grazing (just polished off an easter egg that's been calling me for days). This weather sucks!

Fortunately the commute forces me out but once your wet you realise it's only water and still going the longer route.

    Rule #5 & #9 for 1020 miles this month.

Perversely I won't go out and run in this

Weather is doing my head in at the moment.

Here on the Wirral the rain is torrential and I have a new bike just waiting to be taken out. Off work tomorrow so hopefully get a chance then.

Woke up this morning for a planned ride looked out the window and went back to bed. Shame as a long sunday ride gets ride or my hangover. Might have to clean my bike instead....maybe
  • Aye, fed up today. I managed to get out yesterday and restricted myself to 40km as everything looked dark and ominous, so didn't want to end up being caught in a torrential downpour miles from home - the downpour never actually came at all yesterday.

Today's a different story though - it has been lashing rain all day and the wind has picked up too. Toyed with the idea of getting out later to do a quick 20km ride, but the rain just isn't letting up. Shame as time constraints mean I only get to ride at the weekends.

I'm bored of having a fooked knee & barely being able to cycle at all. The howling wind whipping freezing rain horizontally into my face is just an added bonus.
