Pretty small gaps there, considering the three tough stages to come.

Incidentally I had probably the most delicious Pizza i've ever had in Riva del Garda.

Yeah - Rujano is just what you want for a flat, 55 km/h time trial

I know Phinney is tall but, c'mon.......

The only spoiler here was looking forward to getting home from work and watching highlights of a decent mountainous race, to then realise today's stage was a crappy TTT. :(

Check Androni's record in a TTT. Always up there in these Italian races.

And then Rujano will light them up on the mountains. My call for GC.

    Mini Phinney he certainly isn't.
Yeah, he's just the type of rider to go well up this, on Thursday:

Matt Lloyd crashes out of Paris-Nice, returns today.............and promptly crashes, taking out a team mate who ends up landing on his back on a stone wall.
No wonder he once ended up eating Amstel tarmac with that other "ace of the asphalt": Frank Schleck.

It's 2.HC (essentially a second tier stage race), but there are only 6 world tour teams.

Think Cunego has won stage 2 - anyone have info?
    Contador is the Greatest
  • Yep, Cunego won the stage from Bettancourt and Kreuziger. Matthias Frank in the lead overall thanks to BMC's good TTT. Not a bad stage, small group at the finish, dreadful weather and a toughish climb to finish. Weather supposed to bad next two days, it's going to be brutal.

"Tomorrow is going to be super hard," Max Sciandri explained. "The final climb averages 15 percent grade, with some points at 19 percent. We did it in the 80s in the Giro d'Italia and haven't done it since. It's so steep, the mechanics are going to go up it on motorbikes."

It looks like Basso is on track to ride the Giro (he said in an interview he wouldn't ride if he wasn't in good enough shape to contend for the win).

Interesting as he didn't exactly do a good job here and in fact Pozzivivo was in the same group as him that got distanced then attacked and gained 1min on Basso by the end. Big seller of Basso 85% of the year.

Di Luca must have bonked big time as he was with Pozzivivo when he attacked them came in well down on Basso even.

He's not raced since abandoning Catalunya nearly a month ago due to injury, so it's going to take him a few days to get the rhythm of racing but from today's performance his underlying form is good.

I agree. He posted something odd on twitter that sounded positive.

He lost a minute downhill, which is normal for St Ivan

    Scarponi looks good
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
  • Pozzovivo has got to be kicking himself. He rode that last climb 10-20 seconds faster than anyone else and on his own.

Still got a chance of the overall, but might have blown a great chance to take the the GC. Depends on who was conserving energy for tomorrow.

Not the Zoncolan nor Plan de Corones can live up with it

Hopefully the racing will be a bit better than what we usually see on the Zoncolan. I like the steeps climbs but the stupidly steep climbs tend to nullify the racing somewhat.

Might be something to do with this:-

What was Bettancourt moaning about at the end of yesterday's stage? Cunego didn't even come close to impeding him!

Any decent feeds for this race?
