Pedalling differently

So I was riding out, and suddenly I started pedaling differently, my legs felt relatively relaxed, muscles not very tensed at all, was not putting too much pressure on the pedals, but my cadence seemed to be the same, I noticed how if I started to cycle fast, my legs would not get tired out at all, just I'd be struggling to catch my breath.

Normally I end up putting the pressure down on the pedals and sort of tensing the muscles in my legs, gives me much faster acceleration and maybe very slightly so higher speed but at the cost of leg pain.

Does everyone ride with their legs relatively relaxed? Perhaps that's why on some rides I'm almost home and my legs are dead and I'm breathing at a lower rate I'd sometimes be breathing at settling down in a nice comfy armchair.

Seriously, don't worry about it because as you get older, like mine, they (legs) will get positively floppy no matter what you do.

If you want to be a strong rider you have to do strong things.
However if you train like a cart horse you'll race like one.
  • Is that the sweetspot? I sometimes find on occasion it just feels effortless. It's cadence related for me I believe.

If I proper put the power down and mash my legs, then my legs are horribly knackered the next day, just ache at every movement.
