Hello,
Want to upgrade the wheels on my Cube. I have a budget of around £350 inc tyre cost approx

Can anyone make some recommendations please that would be suitable for my bike?

I have been looking at the following...
Hope Pro2 Evo Mavic Rear £206
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/hop ... l-ec027447
Hope Pro2 Evo Mavic Front £108
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/hop ... l-ec027438
That leaves me a bit of cash for some good tyres.

Thanks

Those are good wheels, but the rims are a little OTT for your bike in my opinion. Merlin have an extra 10% off today, so why not get some custom Hope/ZTR crest/ACI DB Black wheels? They will be lighter than your option but still strong. Probably better suited to the Cube unless you are heavy/clumsy.

Thanks for the good advice. I am heavy, 221 lbs but losing weight slowly but surely.

    Sorry forgot to ask.

Can I transfer the front disc and rear disc to but these wheels, add the tyres and then slot them on?

Yes you can. Given the weight, maybe your Evans choice is a good one ;)

Hmm......personally I'd use the carrot of the new wheels to encourage myself, get some nice light ones and promise myself not to fit them until I reach a target, say 13stone....see them sitting there would be a huge incentive, besides either of those Superstar sets would be fine unless your a 'heavy rider' (style not weight).

Yep makes sense to me but weight wise I am 5ft 10.5" at 231 lbs - when I reach 14.5 Stone I will not be fat but trim, I am big build, so even with 16 lbs in weight loss to go I will still hold a lot of weight. 13stone, and I would look like a bag of bones :D

Definitely gonna go with the Hope Pro 2 Mavics due to my current and target weight.

How big was your dinner today?

Seriously, at 5'10.5" you can't be that 'big build' you'ld look a bag of bones at 13st.....

I'm bigger than 'medium build' and at 5'9.5" and 12stone I could still shed a few pounds.

When i used to box in east london, as a 21 year old i was 14 stone then and trim. I can hold a lot of weight.
14.5 stone is my target :-)

Everyone is different weight and build wise.

I have size 12 feet and a 19" neck, only my belly is showing fat and a bit to
Lose of my face. I eat 4 - 5 small meals a day to speed up my metabolism.
Training is situps and light weights am, plus 1/2 mile swim 5 days a week. 3 sessions on my spinner bike plus mtb ride daily and walk along beach and cliffs in newquay.

It's working for me and i am losing weight in a safe manner.

I eat 1800 calories per day, as limit for fat burn ratio.

    Need some more advice please..

Will be purchasing the wheels next week. As for the Alex ZX 24 wheels, what should I do regarding selling them?

2 weeks old, no hubs, no tyres. Should I put the on Ebay? What price should I punt them out for?

How can you sell wheels without hubs - that would be rims. And spokes I guess.

They aren't wheels are they. What happened to the hubs?

Please bear with me on this. I assume based on being told that the wheels I am going to buy don't have hubs and that I would need them from my existing wheels, this was from Chain Reaction Cycles. I've never done this before, ie a wheel swapout so I just assumed that wheels would need hubs as extra - but if I am being honest I don't know? Would rather look slightly foolish and get very good advice on this forum then buy wrong and look an idiot.

In the end I'm looking at the cheaper option to save cash..

But looking at the picture it looks like they come with hubs?

All wheels come with hubs - they're the bits in the middle - otherwise they are not wheels.
    Maybe you mean rotors?
In which case you could probably get £50-£60 for your wheels.

They are complete wheels yes. The QR ones will be fine for your bike. I personally would prefer these for the money...

    :)

PS - They are the same wheels yes. Just 15% cheaper. You're welcome.

I flogged my similar wheels off a cube ltd team for £100, but they were brand spanking though.

Sorry, one more post. The Mavic wheels are only a moderate upgrade on your current ones BTW. Hardly a radical change. If you want something more pimp, these look great, and sound good too. Not bad weight either (around 100g less than the crossrides).

Thanks everyone - some good options there. Feel a bit of a wally for not knowing much about wheels but glad I got some good feedback and pointing me in the right direction.

Benpinnick: yep gonna go for the mavic with the 15% saving :D thanks for the link

Cooldad: cheers for clearing that up for me.

Money I am going to save on the wheels I will put towards a bike work stand etc

    Thanks again

If you're still riding the original Rapid Rob tyres (?), I would put the savings towards replacing them - they're ok, but pretty heavy and a fairly hard compound.

Yep was going to swap them out and put on the new wheels.

Would you be able to recommend a good tyre all round for trail, basic DH, road and cliff runs (by the beach) please?

£30 per tyre + tube cost as well. So I would say £35 all up per tyre

After all this I have held off with the wheel upgrade for now. Sorry for the not making my mind up after everyone's good advice but thought it would be best to get used to the bike and when my skill level is higher then sort the wheels out. Just replaced the tyres instead and see how it goes. Brought some Panaracer XC Cedric Gracia front and rear. Got a really good deal from my LBS.
