Help! 2nd hand turbo trainer?

Hi, I have been thinking about buying a little turbo trainer, but rather than forking out for new, I thought I might look into acquiring one 2nd hand...
Any advice, on what to look out for, or avoid...
Also, would it be advisable to get a separate wheel/tyre for this, as I am led to believe it wears the rubber down fairly quickly; again, thoughts and advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

I can only help in mentioning one particular trainer not to buy: avoid the basic Elite magnetic trainers, as they are unpleasant to use - resistance felt really notchy and lumpy.
With regard to tyre wear, really depends on what you're running. I've tried a Schwalbe Ultremo which wore out very quickly, yet my current Michelin Krylion Carbon has been used on both the road and turbo all winter and shows very little signs of wear.Plymouthsteve for councillor!!0
