I was wondering what peoples opinion is regards doing long rides steady or fast or just do short rides fast, ive been trying to read about the best way to train when getting ready for some races this year. I am a fit 46 yr old and in need of some advice. I ride 5 times a week with a bit of gym for leg strength.

I'm a 41 yr old 4th Cat racer. I try to do a long quick 40-50 mile ride once a week (17-20mph depending on terrain) and a couple of hard interval sessions during the week. Picked up a 4th place in my only race so far this year.
If you're looking for advice to get into racing I'd suggest you enter a 4th Cat race and see how you get on and where your weaknesses are, then train around these. My weakness is my 2-3 minute power, so I do a lot of training to improve this.0 -
