What is the best chocolate?... discuss...

So... apart from all the different 'flounced up' types, when we're talking good old Milk Chocolate with no bits in, what is everyone's favourite? Cadbury's Dairy Milk?? (I expect we'll diversify, but milk chocolate in its basic form, what's good?)

Do the Swiss, Belgian, or designer-y ones beat it? ...I find Hotel Chocolat for example 'not very chocolatey at all'... queue the recommendations and subsequent 'putting on of weight'.

I've had many many of the different varieties of chocolate but I do love a good bar of dairy milk.

Dairy Milk is the best I've had.

Nothing beats its finely balanced taste and texture.

Not too dark or light, not too bitter or sweet, its just perfect.

    Lindt 70%.

Morrisons 'The Best' dark chocolate orange peel (or whatever it's called).

Dark chocolate, orange - what's not to like?!

I prefer galaxy to dairy milk out of the two main contenders. But Asda SP is very good for the price (with ginger nuts) and the best I have ever had is probably that Nestle double cream bar:

    Well let me tell you!

Whenever I go to stay with my French friends the girls always ask me to bring super sized slabs of Cadbury dairy milk.

They buy and love all the French / Swiss / Belgique 70%+ dark stuff but they just can't get enough of the good old dirty 'zis eesn't proper chocolate' English milk stuff on the quiet. The blokes however still don't touch it.

Cadbury is their preferred choice and Galaxy is welcomed too.

Aldi do somthing called "Dairy Fine", in the classic Cadburys purple wraping, labled in the classic Cadburys font.
I can confirm that that's where the similarity ends!

    Yorkie or Cadbury's Flake.

Flake for when you want to kick back, Yorkie for when you want to stuff your face so that you can't talk.

The best chocolate is not milky. What's next? The best skinny latte?

Dunno what the Kraft lot did at Bournville, but cadburys has not been the same after the takeover.
Sainsburys own brands dark versions really nice :)

    Cadbury's twirl.

    Close the thread.
  • The stuff they sell in Lidl is lovely and only a quid a bar - all varieties tried and thoroughly tested. The one with hazelnuts in is particularly yummy.....

I love Dairy Milk and Galaxy but for me the best is Milka (although there are undoubtably other European bars that are similar). I'm now going to have to get a bar of chocolate at lunchtime to enjoy dunked in my coffee! Diet is on hold today in any case as I'm out for a session tonight :)

For 'non-gourmet' chocolate, absolutely this. Twirl and a glass of cold milk - nom nom nom.

Milk?!?! It's got to be a piping hot mug of tea for any biscuit/wafer/nougat based confectionery.

Either Galaxy or the purple one with a picture of a cow on it, can't remember the name. On a side note I have to say that Toffee crisps are top of the pops for me right now, I forgot how nice they are.

CDM should be named as an international standard IMO.
Cadburys Dairy Milk, naked, fruit & nut or wholenut always in my house.
Kinder sticks, when in France I always buy the boxes of these little things and then gobble them up as quickly as poss.
Love the Swiss gold wrapped animals, Lindt i think.
Wispa of anykind is always welcome, so pleased it came back

A wee curveball is the Coop own brand milk chocolate and crispy chocolate.. try it, it is a bit oily compared to DM

And I keep my chocolate in the fridge...

match it with some Highland Park :)

Too many to pick from with my super sweet tooth!
Recently reminded myself how nice Lion and Star bars are but you can't beat Dairy Milk....

or a Twirl, or Flake or Whole Nut!!! How about the Crunchie flat bar!!

    Love Turkish Delight as well!
    I'm off to the shop!

Galaxy hurts my teeth for some reason.

Toblerone is hard to beat. Also the Green & Black's milk with lots of cocoa (34%).

The 'Willie's Cacao' stuff of TV series fame is excellent, but they don't do milk. Zotter is really good if you can find it, but my favourite (Scotch Whisky) is dark, so doesnt qualify either.
