Really thought chavenel was looking good for trying a long lonely ride off the poggio.

Sagan/Frierre shown some early season alertness.

As a Sky fan I am hoping they can boss it and deliver a world champ jersey win but would be happier if they can't turn it into that kind of bore fest then a really exciting break.

Do we really think Sagan can do it over 200km?

Is there anything to suggest he can?

Has he even raced over 200km??

    It's still applicable isn't it?

We know Hushovd will find it difficult, as he always does after 200km.

Stage 4 Tirreno Adriatico 2012. 251km. Won by P. Sagan

    He can definitely do it.

Not sure, how old was Cavendish when he won, 23? Sagan is 22, really do see why he can't win it.

And Hushovd has finished in the top 10 four times and on the podium twice. Think he can win it, but maybe not this year. He hasn't really shown any form at all.

    Fair enough.

Is there any reason why not? I'mk not going to put any mony on him but it seems like a few of the big names are not at 100%, he's got a reasonable shot....

    Yeah.

I'll be honest, the races he's won in I haven't really watched.

    Hence my scepticism.

I think Sagan is a real talent but, so far in his career, he's never really delivered when all the big names are racing and in form. Until he does, and Saturday may just be that day, then it's natural for people to be a little sceptical.

Could be an interesting indicate for Sky - If Cav is not 100% are they going to release JAF and EBH to have their own cracks. Not sure Flecha has enough of a jump on him, but if EBH were to get over the last few climbs in a small group of classics hardmen (Canc, Di Luca, Boonen etc...) there are few that could challenge him in the sprint.

Is Flecha even riding, says here he's making his return on March 21st.

Also like the bit where he says...
The fracture was smooth and I was even able to ride home after I’d done it.

  • No idea, other that what's in that news story. There was an item on Cyclingnews which is where I saw it first, but I can't find it, hence the one off the Sky website.

May I be so bold to suggest that Boonen won't do so well if the weather is good...?

Also, Hushovd's out with a fever.

Goss has been ill the past couple days too.

    Greipel on Sagan:
"I am indeed not a sprinter who pushes and pulls, but is that necessary? When I see other guys, sometimes I think they are crazy,” Greipel said. “If I am pushed toward a barrier, I'm on the brakes and not going for the smallest hole. I would not fall.”

Not all riders think of their safety, Greipel notes, and he feels that the rider who takes the most risks “must surely be (Peter) Sagan. He is still young and sometimes crazy. That is the difference between younger and older riders.”

There is no point in trying to address the issue with Sagan, Greipel said. "He does not speak English. What can I tell him? I've tried. He does some stupid things in the sprint. That's not smart, but it is so. "

Might as well start cranking up the tea and sympathy now - forecast for Saturday is 8 - 11 degrees, partly cloudy, slight tailwind from North East.

+1 was thinking exactly this. Sour grapes from Greipel for some reason.

Cav looks good value to me at 4/1. Surely we'd expect him to win 1 in 5 years, after a decent start to the season, obvious focus on MSR and form/health concerns about many who would be expected to challenge him.

I've convinced myself even more now, I'm tempted to top up!

Hurrah! It looks like I'll be able to see this race live for the first time ever. My hockey game's been switched to a morning start - a convenient by-product of Wales going for a Grand Slam. Now all I have to do is persuade the pub to put Eurosport on instead of the rugby.

(Only joking - I have Eurosport at home. I will be channel hopping though).

A clubmate with connections to the upper levels of the British racing world, sent me this tonight.
Side stepping slightly, word on the street is that Cav is in good form for this race, this has come from Sky’s coaching personnel Manchester last week.

Ok so translating from Skyspeak that means he could be anywhere between having both legs amputated to being on top form and fully juiced on the latest undetectable wonder drug....
