Well get off the turbo and get on the road then.
I see your in Abergavenny, its not exactly the arctic out there today.
Fundamentally, any form of physical exertion is going to be better than lounging around eating cake .
However, if your challenge is riding a road bike on the road ,the best form of training is going to be riding a road bike on the road.
constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly

MTBing will help as long as you work as hard as you would on the road. It's easy to spend a lot of time coasting/descending on a MTB.

Whenever I ride my MTB I try to use the climbs as hard intervals and the descents as recovery. Most MTBers use the descents as fun and the climbs as a slow laborious way of getting to the fun bit again.

What road challenges are you training for?

Most of my training this winter has been on the turbo, but this is now the second week when all of my training has been on the road. If you can get away from work at 5pm then you can get a good ride in before it even gets dark and its been mostly pretty mild of late for this time of year. 14 odd degrees predicted for the next few days so no excuse not to be out. Early morning rides are also a good way to get the miles in - I've been out at 7am a couple of times this week.
    More problems but still living....
  • Thanks for the advice folks reading between the lines I am going to have to push quite hard and lock out my granny cog if I want to use a bit of off road for variation in my preperation. Will try a 50 miler this weekend I'll take the heart monitor and try to stick to 160 or so. Andy
